EDIT: my bad, looks like Prvi Partizan makes 7.62x38R but not 7.5mm Swiss Ordnance so will rephrase my question:

Interested in feedback from people who have compared both brands for the 7.62x38R (or other ammo designs of similar vintage)
If you tried only one of the brands but had a really good or bad experience, please share as well!

Also interested in general feedback on Fiocchi 7.5mm Swiss Ordnance

Thanks

Never seen Fiocchi 7.5mm Swiss Ordnance for sale in Canada. Maybe its out there, however its not very common. Member on here Kurgan has fired some surplus, but its different type of loading

7.62 Nagant Fioochi and PPU are similar performance wise. Brass from both brands is ok for reloading. Otherwise good ammo, but nowhere near performance of proper Soviet surplus ammo.

The Shooting Centre in Calgary recently got some in stock. I'm tempted to buy some myself

Fiocchi 7.5 (from TSC as mentioned above) is expensive (but it is also expensive in Switzerland - around 80 CHF, which works out to 120 can these days) for a box of 50.

It is what it is, unless you load your own which also involves skill, time and direct cost as neither cases nor bullets are easy to come by (yes, yes, you can cut the cases to size, etc).

It works best kind though :) just like it did 140-ish years ago... that's priceless, me thinks... and it's not about volume-shooting anyhow...

I'm just going to say that if someone who wants to buy a box and keep it that's fine, but shooting that stuff is not something that make sense. From all accounts Fiocchi stuff is wimpy. Starting with 8mm French ord and 7.62 Ng to 455 elly its like mouse farts.
The only good thing to say about Fiocchi is they do make good brass even then some people have their preferences.

Did some research and the 7.5 was black powder for its life even in the 1929 revolver.. Wondering if this 7.5 swiss ordnance by Fiocchi is safe for 1882 revolvers, since its smokeless. I also own a 1892 Lebel and I find it odd how the swiss round has so much more power then the 8mm lebel given the size difference is not much.

Why would it will be unsafe? If its smokeless doesn't mean its loaded hotter than black powder load from the surplus. Fiocchi loads are usually light in these type of cartridges. If the gun is in good condition it will have no trouble with Fiocchi loads.

I know they upgraded the frames to make them beefier over the years... I am sure they don't test the ammo on every variation of the gun. Most the posts I read about reloading this round are clocking it at 900 fps and the fiocchi stuff is upwards around 1200 fps according the their ballistics.

1200fps? wow that is blistering speed for this cartridge, I doubt it can achieve this type of performance. I would be surprised its this can be so hot

Just bought one of those nice 1882m's off CSC.. want to treat it good... bought a few boxes of the fiocchi stuff.. will probably end up just reloading them.

Well my SIG 1882 is built like a tank. I doubt anything commercial can damage it. Fiocchi brass is good for reloading so its good way to start. Please update this thread how the Fiocchi 7.5 Swiss Ord shoots for you. I'm interested in its performance

I would not trust it considering the 1882 was rated 600-700 fps and loaded with black powder well into the 1960's.

One odd thing I never understood was 7,5 swiss is rated at 1850 Bar or 26,800 PSI by CIP for some godforsaken reason.
If Fiocchi is doing their load development off this 27,000 PSI limit, it's no surprise they can get 107gr going 1,200 FPS in a test barrel, that's basically 327 federal magnum territory.

By contrast 32 H&R magnum is rated 1400 bar (20,000 PSI) and 38 special is rated 1500 bar (22,000 PSI) by CIP.

So that's your choice if you trust a 140-year old black powder revolver rated at 600-700 fps (remember, the swiss military continued to issue the 7,5 loaded with black powder up until the 1970's!) to stand up to 327 magnum pressures.

Some food for thought before running 1200 fps in your 1882 revolver (especially considering the pre-1898 antiques have thin topstraps):
