7.5x55 Swiss

Trade-Ex has Prvi Partizan 7.5x55 in stock at $20.95 a box, shipping deal on 400 rounds. Only trouble is that it is loaded with a FMJBT slug. Pull the slugs and seat a 165 or 180 and go blast a moose. Brass is reloadable and very consistent.

They also have genuine Svedish ammo (Norma) at about $2.60 a pop, also reloadable.

They also have GP-11 but it is FMJ AND not reloadable. Hmmmmmmm.........

Being a cheap Scot at heart, I know which way I would swing.

I might bite the bullet (pun fully intended) and buy a box of Norma. Local store has the gp11 for a dollar a rd. Hopefully when I get into the new house I will get myself a press.

Others here are much more knowledgeable than I, I have some stuff that tradeex had in stock, little pricey, but factory, when you get into reloading for the k31, seat the bullet deeper than the OAL (over all length) that is specified in the manual. the ogive of the bullet will touch the throat otherwise. I think member "diopter" has posted a list of correct OAL dimensions for many common bullets. search for his name when you start reloading. If its a member other than diopter who posted the list, my appologies.

I don't mean to high-jack the thread but this is sort of related. Does anyone have worries about this ammunition running out? To my knowledge it is not being produced anymore. Correct? It doesn't seem to be readily available. I don't reload myself. I guess that is always an option.

I got a single stage press and some kit in order to reload for that very reason kalamokid. I use the same 168gr Hornady Match HPBT for my K31 as I do for my .308 rifles. Prvi brass is good so consider getting either the ammo or the brass. I bought 100 rounds of prvi to do just that. I also have some GP11.

SFRC just had a 25% off sale. Check if it is still there.

It has not been produced in Switzerland for years because they had large stockpiles. Those are disappearing, but the cartridge is still used in their MGs so RUAG will be starting a production run again. How much of this new ammo makes it into the surplus stream and when is unknown though.

I've heard that surplus GP11 is alive and strong. "Dissapearing" is a bit of an exaggeration IMO. The surplus supply will run out, obviously, but there is tonnes of it that supposedly gets pulled out in slow increments year after year.

Well, I've been reloading the excellent Swiss GP11 brass using the RCBS Berdan decapping tool. Yes, it's awkward but it works and once you get used to it, not to bad. I have a cut down FL sizing die that a fellow had buggered up by getting a piece of brass, which he hadn't lubed, seized in it. He tried to get it out with some very heavy handed methods and ruined the neck area. I cut off the buggered part and was left with a convenient and easily hand held holder. I tried clamping it in a vice but that really isn't necessary. The same should be viable with your regular FL die, with the decapping rod removed. Sometimes the case gets a bit tight in the process and has to be tapped out with a plastic or wood dowel.

When the case is inserted into this die, it is quite easy to hold onto and operate the RCBS Berdan Decapping Tool. As you know, the tool operates by piercing the primer and levering it out with a cantilever type arrangement. The original, hard military primers are a bit more difficult but the commercial replacements are much softer and easier to remove.

My commercial primer stock is dwindling and I am hoping Can Ammo will have a few 1000 round boxes on hand of the Dominion brand they are advertising on their website.
