7.62.25 with Wadcutters?

Ok, I know this sounds nuts... I want to try loading 7.62x25 down to bullseye-like target pressures/velocities (800fps or perhaps less) using cast lead wadcutters. Has anybody tried this? I'd likely use resized .32 bullets - haven't slugged the barrel yet to determine final size but suspect 0.309" will be a good generic size for starters.

Also thinking about seating bullets deep in the case to avoid poor combustion characteristics with light powder loads. Any thoughts on this?

Likely powders to be used would be W-231, V-V N310 or similar. Any suggested charge weights for use with 90 or 100grain lead bullets in a 6" barrel would be great.

Thanks in advance for your well-considered replies.

I reload for my 7.62x25. I use a 95 grain RNFP hard lead 32 bullet sized down to .309 in front of 5 or 5.5 grains of W231. I have no idea of exactly the speed of these but a guess would be 1050 fps to 1150 fps. Nice loads to shoot.

Lyman's 48th lists a lead 85 grain W231 load starting at 4.5 grains and 1200 fps.

I played around with a few different bullets but some had feeding problems etc. Feeding is improved when COL is close to max with the bullet I am using. I don't know how light you can go with the Tokarev before the action complains but likely less than I am using now.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, guys. Nice to know I'm not the only person who wants to shoot something other than FMJ! The military loadings for this calibre are HOT, making it something less than pleasant to shoot. Some of your suggestions sound much more like the pleasant shooting pistol I'm aiming for.
