The DND has never released ammo for sale to the public.
 
2 points that should be fairly clear by now

tracer ammo is legal.

DND never allows you to take home any spare ammo, or even just the brass from the range.

so where it comes from who knows, it could have been lost.

That's not entirely correct. At least one lot of 5.56 ammo was sold off as surplus due to a QC problem with the penetrator tip. However, that's not to suggest the ammo was sold piecemeal by the DND. I believe it may have been returned to IVI/SNC and brokered through them to distributers.

As for the gunshow finds of IVI/DA ammo, I'd love to know how much was stolen or misplaced, or re-imported from other contracts.
