i have a mildot rectical scope on my m14 now, so now im suddenly interested in how the .308 round performs at different distances. If my scope is zero'd at 100 yards where will the bullets be hitting at 200 yards? 300 yards? 400? i am using 7.62 nato port ammo if that makes a difference. thanks (im a total newb to how these bullets perform)

Here's the deal, you can guesstimate where they will hit based on ballistics tables, but the only real way to know is to carefully shoot a target at 200, 300, 400 etc and actually see what your real drop is compared to 100 yard zero. Record these and then learn them or mark them on a card and laminate it and keep with the rifle.

The next best option is to shoot at at least 200 and actually see where they hit and use some of the fancy software out there to get a better prediction at 300 and 400 based on the real data you have for 200.

These number should get you on paper if you have a 200 yard zero.
200-300 come up 2 1/2 minutes
300-400 come up 3 more minutes.
400-500 3 1/2 more
500-600 4 more minutes
600-700 4 1/2 more
700-800 5 1/2 more
800-900 6 minutes more
900-1000 7 1/2 minutes up from 900
Therefore you need to come up 36 1/2 minutes from your 200 yard zero to get to 1000 yard zero. This is right off the back of the Alfred J. Parker wind calculator for rifle shooting 7.62 Nato cartridges.
Your mileage may very, but this will get you close.
