My son has a Mini-30 that doesn't like Eastern block 7.62 X 39 mm ammo.
Does anyone know of a retailer that stocks or can get American made ammo, Golden Bear or Wolf ammo in Canada?
Thanks.

Hopefully he's been cleaning the gas system after shooting corrosive ammo thru her... Wolverine has brass cased Hornady, but its a hunting round and priced accordingly, otherwise just watch the ammo section of the EE. FWIW Wolf is russian also, so you might want to try a box of the non corrosive steel cased stuff (also russian) from SFRC or Reliable gun to see if it feeds any different.

I had to install a Wolff hammer spring in order for my Mini 30 to shoot reliably. When I first got my Mini it had ever problem in the book, FTF, FTE, etc... I polished the parts, installed a stronger hammer spring and kept shooting crap ammo. Now it works better but I still get a FTF every now and then. Good luck.

In case you were not aware, the Mini-30 was designed for a .308" diameter bullets but most 7.62R rounds are .311" diameter. Trying to squeeze a larger bullet in a smaller cavity is likely the cause of your son's accuracy issues.

I unfortunately don't know where he can get American made 7.62x39mm ammo.

Mini's haven't been made with .308 barrels for a very long time. They're .311 now.

That IS the problem, the bolt won't fully close when using Sellier & Bellot ammo.

I emailed Ruger and they said that all of their rifles are chambered according to sammi spec which means they are 308 rather than 311.
I'm at the point where I start pulling bullets then neck sizing and loading 308 bullets so my son can shoot his rifle.

I thought the early ones had a long leade (tapered throat) in order that both diameters could be safely fired.
