I'm sure there have been threads before on this, but there are so many new ones coming out all the time.

Anyone have any well-founded recommendations as what to get? I'd like an SR-25 but the State Dept. apparently won't grant DSP-5s for them because the US military uses it.

I'm losing count frankly of what there is.

Armalite (is this restricted or prohibited?)
Bushmaster
DS Arms
Knight's
LMT
Rock River Arms
SIG Sauer 716 (which appears to largely be a copy of the Armalite)

And doubtless many others. Obviously it needs to be legal and importable.

My pick would(and are) be an LMT MWS (Questar) followed by the Knight's (One Shot Tactical). The LMT arguably offers more bang for the buck, but if money is no object just go with the SR-25 or EM carbine from OST.

I've owned the LMT MWS308, and currently own an SR-25. As I've said before, the MWS is 3/4 the rifle of the SR-25, at half the price. I definitely like my SR-25 EMC far more, though. Also owned a DPMS LR-308AP4. I went from the DPMS -> LMT -> KAC (so much for trying to build a poor man's SR-25 )

There are some AR-10 rifles that are classed as non-restricted. They're no longer in production, and are fairly rare in Canada.

I absolutely love my SR-25 - well built and very comfortable to hold. Expensive for sure, but worth every penny in my opinion. I got mine through One Shot Tactical.

Lonedrone

IMHO it is more like 90-95% of the rifle for about 60% of the price, but that is largely semantics.

Yeah it's in and around there. I put a larger value on how the SR-25 with a flash hider shot like the MWS with a PWS FSC308 brake and a heavier buffer. Then again, I shoot it more often like a carbine, and less like a DMR.

I have shot a number of them and still prefer my commercial AR10. I've never had a single ftf and it will cloverleaf at 100 all day long with the 24" match barrel. But you're only going to get one off the EE or do a Franken build since you can get some armalite stuff but not a barrel

I like this one from Questar...
PWS - MK107-762 Complete Piston Rifle Package, SS 7' barrel w/1:8 twist, chambered in 7.62x39

Same experience here. I put a Badger Ordnance free floating handgaurd/rails on mine and it shoots great with good ammo. Never had a malfunction in the 15 years I've had it. I wish they would still be available.

I didn't think the SR-25 could be imported into Canada, but anyway how much are OST selling them for? Can't find any info on their website.

I could...
