I recently found a bunch of fired 7.62mm cases on crown land near a military base and was wondering if anyone has any info on them. The headstamp contains the following: "7.62 R1M1 B81" The cases weigh more than commercial cases and I am assuming they are military. Any info on this ammo and the brass would be appreicated. Thanks.

Well the BBT just left. Very pleased and shipping for 60+ pounds was only $17. Ammo can is kind of neat. Label says 1260rds, 147gr FMJ, Match Bullet, etc., etc. One lead seal is missing and it's obvious that it was opened and two battle packs were removed to make it 980rds as advertised instead of the original amount packed in the can. Opened one battle pack. Ammo is in 20rd cardboard boxes and is marked R1M1, 7,62x51 mm Ball, 101 B08/81. headstamp is 7.62 R1M1 B81 so it's 1981 manufacture. Nice clean ammo with a three stake primer and a blackish/purplish sealant on the primer and the case mouth. So far the only thing I have negative to say about it is that it doesn't have that smell like when you pop open a spam can of 7.62x54r......

Hope This Helps.

"...cases weigh more than commercial..." They should. They're a bit thicker. With that headstamp, they aren't CF.

I realize that they weight more because they are thicker. I also know that that headstamp isn't standard issue for the CF.

I research reptiles close to the nearby base and thought it might be some CF guys using some stuff that they had in their stash, the area is frequented by hunters and sometimes off duty CF personnel. Always scrounge brass that is left and couldn't find any info on the headstamps from my internet search.
