7.62mm Rifles for long range pain

Those Tikka's are quite good too...Up to 800m accurately with a 20''..I doubt it, cause of the velocity loss at longer range

Will a tikka tac in .308 be able to hit accurately at 800? It's a 20" barrel, so I'm a little skeptical, as I'm sure the shorter barrel causes it to lose velocity. ?

Yep, 20" will do just fine at 800, more drift, more drop, but not a problem. Believe me, use the 154gr Scenar though, with this bullet 20" will reach to 1000 IMO (checking this out later this month). The 154gr Scenar is my 'gift from the gods' for .308. The light weights allows high velocity, but the BC of .500 keeps it alive far down range. In a short barrel, .308 is actually not a bad choice, it's the only setup I choose .308 in. Reason is simple; physics, with an emphasis on hydraulics. The relatively large base diameter of the .308" projos allows for decent velocity to be attained in short pipes. 7mm-08, .260 both should have longer tubes to be at their prime.

This is why a 150gr .308 is always faster than a 150gr 7mm. I'm a 7mm fan, my favorite bore, but my short barreled rig is wearing a .308 Win snout for these reasons. Honestly, with the 154gr Scenar, 7mm-08 can't keep up to the .308 in a 20" barrel at long range, IMO.

You know Dog House, your fired case isn't supposed to look like that... :D

Yeah, and they're REALLY tough to reload too:rolleyes:

BTW, I picked up a few additional mags before Beretta bought them out

Actually, that case COULD BE reloaded. Not insane...really.

Smooth the exterior of the case. Tape the holes. Reload as usual. It will fire and case may even extract.

Smoking the OK Valley's finest????? Nope.

The chamber wall will act as the side of the case. The brass naturally expands and will seal against the chamber.

Why we can fire ammo that has head separation without undue injury and fuss.

If you do decide to try it, then I would say your are insane...

Any sacrificial milsurps out there?

Jerry
