While I love my Tokarev TT33 it's very hard to shoot more than 5 mags from it due it's unique proletarian design :) I was always wondering if there is a possibility to combine those two very cool WW2 handguns. Well, it's possible :)
Comfort of 1911 plus cheap surplus 7.62x25 ammo is a great combo. Loading 38 Super mags with 8 rounds is not a problem with just a cheap thumb saver, but almost impossible without it. I can only fit 5 rounds doing just by hands. I got this conversion kit from US manufacturer that doesn't ship directly to Canada, I got it when I was in NY. Barrel required a minimum fitting job. This only works with 9mm or 38 super 1911 models.

Sold my Tovarev but if there was a cheap 1911 is 7.62x25 I'd get one for sure.

Looks like fun! How does the recoil feel like in a 1911?

Pretty sure there should be some Chinese milsurp 7.62 converted 1911's out there somewhere, probably extremely rare though.

Looks terriffic! But just a word of warning: Somewhere I think there is a CGN sticky about posting illegal practices. Presumably you got your conv. kit through Canada Customs OK but unless you obtained the proper export licence, you almost certainly were in violation of US ITAR export restrictions. If you had been caught by the US Border Services, you (and possibly the manufacturer) would likely have been in exceedingly deep doo-doo. If the mfr. doesn't ship directly to Canada, it is probably because they don't have an export permit.

OTOH, if all this was done up front and square to the laws of BOTH countries, my apologies, and for heaven's sake tell us the details!

Have a local gun buddy that has a USGI 1911A1 so converted.

He picked it up off the EE here awhile back.

Just working on what recoil spring to go with as the ctg is considerably hotter than the stock 16lb GI spring is meant to handle. Otherwise it seems to run pretty well.

Actually, i think CGN prohibs posting of practices illeagal in canada. He broke no law. What happens in the south is his business. Not condoning. And as far as you know he did do it leagally. Pity your first assumption is he's a scofflaw.....:slap:

That would be sweet, I really like that round. I'd love to pick up a PPSH-41 but Canada sucks.

A buddy of mine was firing his Tok with handloads over the chrony a couple of weeks ago and they they where going about 1680fps if I recall. Zippy little round.
