Just curious about what kind of velocities guys are getting with the different factory and surplus ammo out there. I have some Russian stuff to test but that will be a while from now. Wondering about what sort of speed to expect from different sources.

Lots of variation in 7.62x25 ammo. I have seen lots of published figures, and most are below the internet myths. However, I think you will find that S&B and Winchester made by S&B is very hot stuff. I stopped using it altogether.
What Russian ammo do you have? let us know what your testing reveals.

The variation is part of the reason I ask. Seems like numbers online are all over the place. I have some '77 dated Russian FMJ to test. It seems hot but not sure of the actual velocity.

When they first hit the market back in 2010-2011? We chronographed czech surplus through our Russian post war toks and if memory serves me, we were getting 1550ish fps. Of course the spreads were pretty wide but awesome velocities.

I checked a bunch of Russian stuff that TradEx has with my Chrony Beta and it all came in around 1350-1380 FPS if I remember correctly. Someone had the Czech surplus stuff there and it came out at 1425-1450. My Hodgdon XTP recommended Max loads only came out to a disappointing 1250 FPS.

Which powder did you use? I am looking to load up some XTP with H110 sooner or later. Thanks for the replies! A little disappointing about the tradex ammo. I am not surprised though while it is certainly noisy and a bit flashy it has very little recoil.

I loaded up 5.3 gr titegroup to an OAL of 1.315". I later got the Quickload software program and determined my next load of XTP's will start at 6.6 gr of Unique which is Sierras accuracy load for a 86 gr pill up to 7 gr for approx 1438 FPS at just under 35k psi. Which should be safe for any Tok to shoot all day.

As usual don't listen to any guy on the Internet. This info is given here for entertainment and is not a verified load. Please be safe and work up your own loads slowly. :)

New norc I'm seeing around 1450-1500, Russian surplus 1550-1600, and 50's Czech upwards of 1700, all out of the p762.
Using a sleeve in a 20" 30-06 bolt action and I've seen upwards of 1950fps with the Czech, 1850 with everything else. It definitely is loaded hot, lacquer sticks in both guns.

Your problem with sticking cases (BXN51 etc.) can be solved by seating the bullet a few thousands deeper. You will hear and feel a crack as the bullet moves. You are breaking the adhesive bond between the bullet and the case. The bullet sealer stuff used in this 60+ year old ammo has gone as strong as crazy gun - leading to excessive bullet bite and very high and somewhat erratic pressures.

See the white stuff on the case necks,? That's the bullet adhesive that get extra hard with time.

The stuff will group better after this treatment and cases won't stick in most 7.62x25 guns.

You may still have problems with a low serial no P762 - as the chambers on the early guns are undersized. I had to run a 7.62x25 reamer through mine to get it to even chamber various factory 7.62x25 and 7.63x25 cartridges.

And no, the BXN51 to BXN54 stuff isn't submachine gun only ammo. It is just stuff originally loaded to SAAMI like pressures which now shoots "hot" because the the forestated, easy-to-fix excessive bullet bite problem
