Hello all!

I just thought I would share my latest ammo purchase experience.

A while back, I bought my wife a Norrinco 54-1 (a TT33 nock off) from Armco. She seems to really like it as she has small hands. It came with both the 9mm and 7.62*25 barrels. I have hand loaded the 9mm but thought I should feed it some 7.62*25 as well.

I placed an order by fax with Marstar on Friday Jan 19th for 2280 round of their 7.62*25 TT FMJ ammo. I followed up followed up by phone on Jan 22, spoke both to Eric and Frank, and my order arrived today (Jan 30) via Canpar courier. When I opened it up I was pleasantly surprised with the following:

762x25-1.jpg

I had expect steel cases, however, to my eye it looks like I got brass casings!! :D

Now I have only sampled 2 boxes out of the possible 57, however It looks like good fortune has smiled on me !! :)

I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience or if you have any thoughts??

On a different note, I must admit, Marstar latest efforts to improve customer service, really seems to be paying off.

Look forward to your responses.

regards and all the best

It's still just shoot once ammo (as in not reloadable). Czech manufacture, berdan primed, and corrosive.

Good ammo, but I don't see an advantage over a steel case.

P.S. remember to clean your barrel with water before using bore solvent since it is corrosive.

At least you can get a bit of cash for the scrap brass, may not be much but a few bucks towards your next purchase.

CanAm:

Thank you for the info. I was unaware of this.

Gentelmen:

I was simply trying to share what I thought was good fortune.

Advantage or not, I have a personal prefence for Brass cassings over steel. Perhaps its the fact that I am a long time hand loader. While I could be wrong, it is my understanding that Brass, in general, feeds better.

Further, the fact that I got my personal preference, for no added work, I thought was a bounus.

Of coure its corrosive and none reloable, but I still think its a heck of a lot more "pretty" than steel cases. :D

Likely for loading the vz.24/26 subgun mags. I believe there is also a method of loading the CZ-52 with clips.

I have some too. They are boxer primed too!

Feel good R.W! I prefer brass cased ammo, too. I think the 8 round strippers feed a Tokarev loading device that allows you to charge up pistol mags using the strippers. I may be wrong (have been once or twice in my life:D)). You CAN reload the berdan primed brass, but you need either a special deprimer, or you can fill the case with water and, with the case supported but not the primer, put a bullet sized piece of dowel in the hole and give it a good smack. The hydraulic pressure should force the primer out. You need a snug fitting piece of dowel, and you will get wet! Don't foget about special berdan primers too. Have fun!

Thanks I appreicate it.

Currently, you are corret wrt cost at this point in time, however things on the ammo supply front seem to have a way of unexpectedly changeing and it may not be a bad idea to pic up a few spent brass cases for either scrap or future use. :D

Heck, if I could be gauranteed another case of brass cassings I would buy an additional two cases in a heart beat.

While this may not be the correct forum, there are a couple of reasons that I got the case.

First, I need to feed my wifes norc

Second, it is my understanding Barry over at Bits of Pieces has been slowly working on a non-resticted project carbine to shoot 7.62x25. It might be not a bad idea if a few of us contacted hime to let him know that we are all interested. It may fast track the project!!

Now there would be a gopher killier!!:D

I got my Tokarev before the current flood of Norincos, etc. I had a heckova time finding ammo for years. Back when it was still legal and possible, I imported 1000 brass cases with Boxer primer holes. This was brand new production from Starline.

Now that surplus stuff is cheap and readily available, I shoot that, but I still will keep the remaining 700 or so Starline cases. (The little buggers are hard to find in the grass!).

Some years back, I bought a pile of 7.62x25 steel cased ammo. I fired a few rounds out of an old Russian T-something or other. The clip that holds the crosspin that holds the slide to the frame flew off and across the room. Hmmm. Shortly after, I read an article that this ammo was NOT to be fired in these guns, but only in submachine guns or the CZ52 pistol. It is quite hot, and it definitely cycles the CZ52!! I guess I learned a cheap lesson there - Just because the cartridge chambers and I bought the ammo cheap, doesn't mean it is gonna be alright!!:p :p
p. I still have a pile and still fire it in the CZ. :)

In fact it is not advised that it be shot in the CZ52. The failure mode of the CZ52 is that the chamber splits through the thin spot on the bottom, where material has been milled out to make room for the roller pins. The TT-33 and the Norinco clones however can easily handle this and hotter ammo.
