I am not sure where to put this because it seems to belong in 3 different forum sections.

Basically I stumbled upon it while browsing...it was on AR15.com...an AR15 modded to accept a new cartridge modification. Basically they take the 7.62 Tok pistol catridge and load a full sized 30 cal rifle bullet into it and up the pressures with H110.

Here it is next to a 458 SOCOM

Then someone else started messing with it in their pistols...forced into a Beretta

Ummm...you do realize that the guys doing the mods are gunsmiths right?

They took a 30 calibre barrel, chambered it to the 7.62x25mm and then worked it up from there to keep it as a Gas Operated system. The pressures are prolly going to be less than the original 223.

Simply put, it is a good design with great potential.

I especially like that odd copper-only fragmenting projectile

I have always wondered what wildcats are available for the Tok cartridge...perhaps a 6x25mm or a 25 cal(6.35x25mm) wildcat would be useful too.

But this design alone will be interesting to watch

Some data I have found so far on the AR15 forum

110gr Vmax, 1.710oal, AA#9, 10.3 gr MAX LOAD, 1750 fps...747.86ft/lbs
125gr Ballistic Tips, 1.835oal, H110, 11.0gr, 1582fps...694.51ft/lbs
150gr Power Point Flat Nose, 1.650oal, H110, 11.0gr, 1272fps...538.79ft/lbs
168gr SMK, 1.850oal, Win296, 10.4gr, 1300fps...630.30ft/lbs
200gr Sierra BT Spitzer, 1.900oal, AA#9, 7.5 gr, 1300 fps...750.36ft/lbs

A few of the m1 carbines that lever brought in a few years back were chambered for 7.62 tok as the chinese did not have a supply of .30 carbine

7,62 Micro-Whisper and 7,63 Mini-Whisper in effect, with emphasis on the Micro-Whisper, an idea almost 20 years old now. The dif being using the Mauser casing vs the Tok casing.

While interesting there are easier ways of maximising or minimising the poodlegun. If you want less you can use the Tok or Mauser casing as shown, if you want to simply change out a barrel, and alter the cartridge these pics illustrate some basics.

Thats a 30 Carb case, which will feed from an AR15 mag, and requires no real bolt mods etc. In the pic its stuffed with a 155gr HPBT, profile wise its obvious you could lengthen the case, increase capacity, decrease bullet size, and jack up the pressure to 5,56 levels and still spew 30 cal bullets down range.

and speaking of the AR15.com wienies, Striker did the neck on this one. It was something I just wanted to see, namely how long you could get a round with a 30 cal bullet and still have it fit in a poodlegun mag. As can be seen in this case its a 5,56 casing cut back. Clearly you could get a much longer 5,56 basic in effect, and load in a 30 cal. This round is closer in configuration to a 300 Whisper, and not at all what I was interested in, I was just curious how it would fit in a mag.

All photos by Striker....sighhhhhhhhhh, I guess AR15 mods got lots of spare time on thier hands :D

All photos by Striker, brass supplied by Striker, press supplied by Striker, bullet puller supplied by Striker, .223 round supplied by Striker.
you couldn't even supply 1 coffee...you goof! :D

If it where a completely new gun based around the cartridge I would be interested, otherwise I see no advantage of shooting less powerfull more rare calibers from an AR.

Why not just stick to 5.56 or 6.5 Grendel or 6.8 SPC? Why does AR platform needs so many calibers?
Because limiting caliber and cartridge possibilities is the correct option? I disagree.

I too like the idea of having a seperate rifle or PDW chambered in this cartridge design. The primary benefit of the AR is the benefit of having so many cartridge choices, and the fact that it is so easily modded to accept these calibers.

Compared to the amount of work that would be nessecary to do the same to any other types of guns, the AR is quite versatile, thusly making it an excellent experimentation platform.

Noise polution levels would be very low with those rounds, maybe that's why people are trying them in the AR platform - naaah.

This would make a really cool PDW. Put it in an M4-style short carbine, load with the 110 VMAX bullets. Should be about the same weight/size as an MP5, with *much* more power. Actually, it's not really all that far behind full-house 5.56 loads for a 10" barrel - but the blast and muzzle flash should be MUCH reduced.
