Before I able to buy guns(11 years ago) I worked in a lumber yard, A guy I worked with was one the first people I knew to have an SKS, Not sure if he was pulling my leg but he said he had Russian ammo with a hammer and sickle on the headstamp? I try to grab any new 7.62x39 round when I see it, I have about 20 different ones, but never seen any Russian surplus with a hammer and sickle? Was he full of it?

I have some Russian corrosive from the soviet era and there is no such markings. That doesn't mean there never was, I've just never seen it myself, in fact none of the crates I've ever had, had any such markings either. Nor ones I've seen in bulk in stores.

I'm skeptical but who knows? This stuff was made in many factories for many years in many countries. So far I like the Czech stuff best, mine came lacquered on stripped clips

Doubtful as Russia sent ammo to places that they probably didn't want people knowing it was them, hard to deny you sent a country or group ammo when the hammer and sicle is stamped on the head!

I don't believe soviet ammo ever had that. It had the date and the factory number, and that's about it. Same with most military ammunition from both sides of the iron curtain from this time period, but especially 'their' side.

Cheers.

I would doubt there would be room in Russian economy for hammer and sickle stamp but the two numbers that were always stamped were the year of manufacture and the factory.
