This thread got me looking through and organizing my 7.62x39 ammo. Like many folks I used to grab a couple boxes here and there whenever on sale and just toss it in the pile for a rainy day. Well, the pile has grown and the organizing turned into headstamp research. What a cool pile of history. Every stamp I looked at connected me to its year of manufacture. Where in the world did this round travel? What places did it see? Where was it at any given moment of major newsworthy world events that year? Sound silly? Well maybe it is with modern 80s, 90s and 00 dated stuff but when I'm picking up Czech stamped ammo in mint shape from 1960 on stripper clips that bear the matching stamps I just feel like a part of history, almost like a caretaker of the past. With that in mind I'll just pack these little snippets of time away for another wonderful discovery years down the road after I've forgotten where I've stashed them and make a special trip to the local gun shop to buy stuff to shoot tomorrow. Hopefully it will be of a more modern vintage otherwise I'll not ever get an opportunity to actually shoot! Ahhh, smiling face as I pack away my little treasures.....priceless.
