7.62x39 Cases Splitting

Hi there,

I am having issues with Norinco ammo steel cases splitting.

I have a couple different kinds of 7.62x39 ammo. Czech Corrosive, Norinco Yellow Box and Norinco Silver box Non-Corrosive. I find that it all shoots well with no issues in my Russian SKS. However when I shoot the Norinco Silver Box in my bolt action rifle (CZ527) I get cases splitting frequently and can not open the bolt without using a cleaning rod to poke the stuck case free. The Czech ammo runs through the bolt action with no issues at all.

Has anyone had a similar experience? Are the Chinese steel cases more brittle than the Czech ones?

Search seems not always to be effective..it could be one of the things that V-Bulletin could improve upon.. perhaps it's because it's so resource heavy..

Wow.

My Mosin has been known to slightly crack a steel 54r case from time to time, but always way up on the neck, safely up in the barrel. Haven't seen one split way down there, and definitely not in my SKS!

The splitting isn't occuring in my SKS, just my bolt action rifle with the Norc Ammo. The Norc ammo is fine in my SKS which is why I am a little perplexed.

I wonder if your bolter has a larger chamber than your SKS?
Try taking a fired case from your bolter, (Fireformed to the dimensions of the larger bolter chamber) and see if it fits in the SKS chamber.

That makes sense. A brass case would stretch more, a steel case much less, yes?

This, its a chamber size issue.

God's way of telling you to stop using that ammo in that gun.

I have seen several serious accidents where the shooter carried on with ammo/gun combo that was showing signs of issues. In one case, it let go on the fourth shot. He should have stopped after the first one.

looks to me like the steel is a little brittle and the chamber a bit big. bad combo.

Yeah maybe a combo of chamber size and brittle case. Just figured if the Czech steel cased runs perfectly the Norc should too. Maybe the Czech cases are springier? I'll save my split case and compare it to the same ammo out of the SKS and see how they compare.

Still curious if anyone else has experienced split cases with the non corrosive Norc.
