7,62x39 from india

The components you are inquiring about are all made by a government owned company and I don't believe they sell onto the civilian market. IOFS is a general name and there are over 40 different factories/80k employees, producing armaments and ammunition.

There is another very large company in Pakistan, that is government owned called Pakistani Ordnance Factory. They supply a large part of the ammunition used by many well known militaries of the world.

Neither are members of NATO so quality specs are likely different.

I had a few crates of IOFS surplus 7.62x54R that was eventually pulled for the components. All of the bullets were .310 diameter and weighed 180+ grains, likely intended for machine guns.

PPU was for decades member of the CIP so a pretty good standard ...

The they built their bullets to the lowest standard allowed or less.

I had PPU brass that had to have the rims trimmed to fit into a shell head holder and the weights of the cases on verging on extreme variances. Same for the bullets

PPU bullet jackets were always inconsistent as far as all around thickness goes and that's a recipe for disaster.

Maybe they've change but I don't even look at their stuff anymore.

I don't believe that personally, however, I would put their ammunition quality at almost as good as PPU, which imho is barely acceptable.

I have found PPU ammo pretty decent, at least in .223 and 7.62x51. Could it possibly have been a bad batch/lot, etc. or maybe a specific caliber that you have experience?

It's interesting - lots of folks have recommended S&B to me. Aside from the the decent QC where all cartridges are clean and rather indistinguishable, the brass (again for .223) comes out pretty clean. But I have found out of my guns it shoots more inconsistently. Now this is standard stuff, not the match grade 77gr or anything like that.

And...I have had a number of S&B rounds from various lots have pierced primers, more than any other brand.

Overall, while some have told me PMC is OK, I have found it to be the most consistent in terms of performance, despite its value-pricing. I never thought I'd feel that way from Asian-made cartridges.

I find this facet of the discussion interesting because I was planning to go to my LGS tonight and pick up some PPU rangemaster 5.56 boxes.
