Santa left an SKS in the gun safe and today I went to Lebaron in Ottawa to feed the new toy. It appears that LeBaron sells 7.62x39mm FMJ but not Soft Point ammo.

I would like to take the SKS coyote hunting sometime this week so anyone know where I can get 7.62x39mm SP in the Ottawa Gatineau region?

Thanks

Stittsville Shooting Range likely has some, no idea what their operating hours are like during the holidays though. Maybe That Hunting and Fishing Store in Richmond.

SFRC isn't in Ottawa but well worth the trip there!!!!

I've used both the Privi and, S&B...both worked well out of my 7.62x39 but, the S&B certainly gives a bigger Kick!

Hi Camster,

Did you compare the accuracy of the Prvi versus the S&B? Which one was more accurate?

OP, not being familiar with ON regs, is there a ban on FMJ where you want to shoot? Why do you specifically need soft points. That's an expensive way to feed an SKS for fun. My particular fun comes from shooting milsurp FMJ's then trading out the bullets for soft points for hunting. Works great.

I'm not familiar enough with the local regs to be certain but, for plinking FMJ is the way to go. It's the 'yote hunting that may be of concern...

EDIT:
just surfed and, now I have to check out MFS...
Looks like both FMJ and, SP in bulk. Bigger$'s than Czech but, probably non-corrosive. I also have to try some of the "Yellow box Norinco" FMJ Santa left for me...

I cleaned the last traces of cosmoline last night and oiled everyting except the gas system. The trigger is very rough! I'm going to Kempville today and will have a look at Canadian Extreme http://store.canadianextreme.com for SP ammo.

The SP amo is for coyote hunting. I picked up only 100 rounds of Czech FMJ at LeBaron yesterday for plinking until I can find a good deal on FMJ locally.

I had no idea that store was in Kemptville. I've never seen it mentioned on this site before. I don't live far away I'll have to stop in.

Don't bother going. I went to the address listed on the website and it's a house. it would appear to be a dot net business out of someone's basement.

I was just in the new Sail outdoor store in the Ottawa Train Yards. They had S&B 7.62x54 and 7.62x39 ammo behind the gun counter on the 2nd floor. Not sure if it was fmj or sp.

Gunco with Jason Spencer is still there but what's so special About that place? I've been there twice and it's just a gunsmith with a few used guns on display. Idon't think he sells ammo unless it is special ordered.

I was working from memory...haven't looked at gun stuff in the Capital in about 20 years. I have a hard time imagining no 7.62x39sp in Ottawa. Gunco is the only shop there I could think of. As I recall, they were great to deal with. lol,

I called SAIL Ottawa and they sell 7.62x39 SP.

Lebaron sells 1200 rounds of FMJ for $218 but I will call Gunco tomorrow to see if Jason can beat that price.

Thanks everyone for your help.
