Hey guys,

Does anyone know where to get some Cz surplus tracers? I think lever arms had it a while ago, does anyone know where in the lowermainland you can buy it? Maybe a crate?

Dont bother.. Most batches dont work. I've bought a crate and im lucky if 1 out of 10 lights up. Some people did get lucky and got "good" batches, but dont hold your breath.

Put a post up on the bulletin board at Poco and make a post on BC4x4 .com. A couple guys there bought a case and last I heard, had not used many at all because the PITA cleaning up after corrosive ammo. I also don't think they realized the range wouldn't let them shoot the stuff.

Good to know, any idea why it wouldn't light up? How far were you shooting them?

At the last Santa shoot I think I saw a few guys shooting it, their stuff seemed to work great.

Seeing that these tracers are over 40 years old, my guess would be that the powder deteriorated slightly causing lower temperature/pressure inside the case, not enough to ignite the tracer element. The tracer element itself is not the problem - i pulled some tips and heated them up with a blow torch and every single one "worked".
I was shooting them vertically into the air.

Like i said, some people got decent batches, but most did not.
If you feel lucky and want to try them out, you can buy them here:

It does light. You just need to get further back. We got some and shot it last year. We were nervous about shooting it in the woods and actually went up on a wet day. Inside of 80-100 yards, it wouldn't light in flight. When we got back further, we started to see the red lines. We also got lots of red glow in the backstop after impact, so the phosphors were definitely lighting. It would be much more fun on a 200+ yard range.

I don't know if this is by design... perhaps its to protect your position? Someone more familiar with military ammunition would be better able to speculate on that.

We saw a few bright red ricochets, too, so shooting this stuff in a dry forest would be ill advised.

Mine has a 95% success rate. So do other case lots I've seen so I don't know about the "most batches don't work" being truly accurate.

What distance are you shooting to? I've been shooting it at 300-500m.

Frontier does not sell them anymore as tracers have been deemed a prohibited ammunition and they were not legally imported... according to NRCAN.

They aren't prohibited in law...maybe just not "approved" by NRCAN, but not "banned."

I bought a battle pack of 300 from lever for a student shoot event and more than 75% lit up...interesting when they hit the back berm and the tracer pocket seperates from the bullet...they were flying everywhere...very cool!
