Camp Cook hunts with 6.8 spc. You might want to ask him. Like Ar180shooter said both probably similar out to 200 yards. Might want to check ballistic tables.
My question would be are you going to reload as hunting rounds in x39 are made but not sure how readily available. Same with 6.8 spc. Factor cost for commercial if you don't reload and how much shooting you plan on doing for practice. You can buy surplus x39.
Do you have the 6.8 spc conversion for that other upper? If not I guess it depends if you want to invest in another conversion for you XCR-L. Your mags should be good to go for all platforms. Unless your in a rush why don't you pick up some Hornady 7.62x39 SP hunting ammo and try them out this hunting season. You can practice with surplus.I'm using factory loads at the moment and I currently have the 7.63x39 Conversion kit for my XCR-L .223! I bought another upper and It will either be set up for 7.63x39 Conversion kit or the 6.8spc and optics ready to go.
In-terms of ammo cost and availability I guess the 7.63x39 Conversion kit would have a slight edge...For practice I do most of my range time with PMC FMJ 5.56mm and AE FMJ .223
I agree with "Hornady 7.62x39 SP hunting ammo and try them out this hunting season. You can practice with surplus".Do you have the 6.8 spc conversion for that other upper? I'll put it to you this way. Just my $0.02 but if I had a XCR-L in x39/.223, I'd buy a XCR-M in .308/.260 Rem and not bother with 6.8 spc.
If you only want one gun then I'd keep either the x39/.223 depending on which suits your purpose more then sell the other, go with the 6.8 spc and set up your second upper for that.
