7.62X39 VS cover

I use sprocket for 40 chain as target. That kind of sprocket is made from 7/16high quality steel, not mild steel. At 50 yard the Cz surplus won't penetrate it but the sprocket get kicked so hard that it would fell into pieces after 5 rounds.

And the sprocket turns HOT after 5 rounds!!

7.62X39 will defeat one layer of brick and concret masonary, but 5.56 will out penetrate 7.62X39 against steel plates. Pick your poision.

I'll take 7.62x39 cause the majority of our enemies don't wear body armor and we have anti veh weapons far superior to anything using 5.56.

Actually what might the best is a newer middle of the road caliber. Something allong the lines of the 6.5mm that has a bit more get up an go then the 5.56. With the sheer volume of ammo that troops are carrying these days I would hate to have it be 7.62 nato. Maybe when the US finally does come up with their replacement for the M16 it will come with a new round.

I've heard rumors that the US is working on a new caliber.

Any other inside "intel", you'd care to share with us civvies..

Who said it was "inside intel"? A rumor is a rumor. If nothing comes of it then hwo harm no foul, if however it comes true then someone gets to say "told ya so" :D .

The problem is that you can reinvent the wheel all you want but in the end maybe its just technological masturbation. Some of the stuff that came out in the last round of the US Army trials were real cool and maybe not so practical.

Even now in Iraq american troops are in some cases using AK47, likely for a lot of reasons but in then end they are using them. One guy wants one thing, another wants something else I guess.

An interesting wildcat might be a 6.5x39mm using a necked down 7.63x39 case or a necked up 5.45. You have the advantages of the case taper, etc.
