The Chinese can make a good product as long as they are closely watched. Large orders shipped out of country sometimes get corrosive slipped in .

Thanks for the feedback. I have no doubt it was the Norinco one that caused your rust. Do you by chance either have any of the rounds left from that box or lot or any of the left over casings left (I know few keep steel casings) - I am curious what the two digit date headstamp on those rounds from the white box was.

Unfortunately I do not have that info. It was in the white box era, before the red ones now. The nice thing is that I've done a really easy cleaning regimen since then with good results. I just do a big flush with a 1:10 mix ballistol and water and no issues at all. The water flushes and the oil stays and protects. Just gotta make sure there's not a bunch of water stuck in any gas port, but a q-tip takes care of that. If you really want to save money I'd say invest in stuff that makes for good, quick cleaning. I think $30 of ballistol I bought in 2015 has saved me thousands of dollars long term. Thank god I always flushed the bore on my Cz bolt rifle even before I knew the Norinco stuff was corrosive. My paranoia of rust on nicer rifles than SKS' paid off.
