Do the 7.62x39 Bren 2 mags fit a standard STANAG magazine well? For instance, could you use a 5/30 in a 7.62x39 WK?

Thanks.

No, the Bren mags are unique to the rifle for the 7.62x39 guns

There is a stanag adapter for the Bren, but if we are ever allowed to use std capacity mags you will want the originals due to the curve so it functions properly.

Stevo - I have the Bren 2 Ms 7.62x39mm. Most packages being sold now come with the STANAG mag well adapter. As Brian46 pointed out, you insert the sleeve and do a quick 3 minute change to the magazine release button by removing a washer.

I document it here in this thread at Reddit:

Everything needed to convert the magwell came with the box that I purchased from G4C.

I have tested CPD Duramag 7.62x39mm 10 round mags, CPD Duramag 7.62x39 28 pinned to 5 mags, and DH Tactical 30 pinned to 5 mags.

All cycle well, except that it is possible to overinsert the DH Tactical mags. Of the three types, I enjoy the CPD Duramag 5/28s

See this thread for photos and descriptions of my experiences with the various mags so far:

If you have any questions about the Bren 2Ms 7.62x39mm (mine is an 11" barrel) or the magazine options please feel free to ask.

As others have mentioned, the proprietary mags are fine, they are sturdy and well designed, but the only way you get 10 rounds with a Bren 2 x39 in Canada right now is to convert the magwell. If you don't urgently want/need 10 round capacity, it's totally fine to stick with the proprietary set-up.

so here is a question

there is a mag well adapter for the bren magwell to stnag...
Would said adapter work in the magwell of a CZ 600 trail?
Maybe a little trimming to get to fit, built its the same mag well and release...
Only thing holding be back from the X39 600 Trail. Love my 5.56 one. That said I would imagine it then would have issues with the magazine release. The 5.56 one does not like aluminum and steel magazines. You have to slightly file the cutout in the magazine to get it to lock.

i just picked up a cz trail.... Im going to try to find the adapter and fit it its a $40 experiment

Its like the magwell adapter to the Ruger americian to covert the .450 bushmaster magwell to stnag..., they said it can't be done and its not compatible... well 10 seconds of a dremel or some careful work with a exacto knife and it fit and functioned perfectly.

It would defiantly be a game changer... some of us have a bunch of 10 round XRL pistol mags extra for some reason.

Did it work?

So, it slides right in and locks up... good
The mag catch leaver hole is in the wrong spot... Bad
Its easy to modiy the hole to allow the mag catch leaver to operate.... good

you have to remove the washer shim in the mag catch.... easy (part of kit install on bren 2)
you may have to file your mag catch just a hair...... on mine the back edge of the tab catches on my XCR-L pistol mag... a few strokes with the file and this was no longer an issue, It doesn't effect lock up on the AR mag or the bren 2 mag

the gun cycles all 10 rounds perfectly.. mag locks in nice, and drop free easy...

the only negativeIMG_20250117_172158_158[1].jpg is how far it sticks out... in theory you could hack it flush without issue... but it might be a little weak afterwards

Works flawlessly, rounds feed every timeIMG_20250117_171047_266[1].jpgIMG_20250117_170850_246[1].jpg

so in theory, it can go up far enough to use the factory cut out and basically be in the gun an additional 1/2 inch

The issue lies with the wings on the adapter hitting the upper reciever.. so if they were trimmed off it would seat much higher... the problem is the retaining tabs on on those wings... not the end of the word.. this could be addressed in several ways... such as a set screw from the reviewer.. but that's actual gunsmiths territory ... I have the tooling to do it.. but I figure most dont...
