7.62x39mm...I need options

I bought an SKS and a s^#tload of 7.62x39 ammo. The SKS has been surprisingly fun and more or less accurate, but I'm looking for a new toy. Do I go to the Mini 30, the CZ-858, or ?????? :confused:

What do you guys recommend? I will not hunt with this round as I prefer my .270 or .30-06...so yeah, I'm stuck and I'm looking for any informed opinions for a fun shooter that can at least shoot M.O.broad side of a barn.

your better shoot more than a 100k with it , otherwise it wont happen !



when i started to own guns , i wanted first an cz858 ended with a sks after listening to some ,

a few month later i did get the 858 who was my favorite gun until the story .

get a vz58 /858 and if you get the money go for the xcr-l

the vz/cz is the lightweight one , but the xcr is the best ergonomic if you want to add stuff on it , the xcr-l might be a lot of money but you dont get a plastic rifle it all metal , simple and easy to clean

Please excuse my lack of knowledge, but when you say a lot of money...what exactly does that mean? Or is it the add ons that increase price creep exponentially?
 
I would say that restricted rifles are out as I like to plink with my kids in the great outdoors as the great outdoors seem to be shrinking due to the encroachment of the portable and extensive electronic world...how did us "old" guys survive without texting a "BFF" every 2 minutes....

That image from Dad003 is very nice indeed...but the wife...oye...

xcr-l have gone up of 10% because of the canadian dollars , my rifle with a few mag cost me around 3k at the 2014 price , add another k for the scope with mount around 4k in total for my setup

Regarding Head Office (wife), that's a lot of explaining to do...damn!!


It sounds as if my options are very limited...I have to say, I'm surprised with the info regarding the Mini 30...I thought that may be a fun rifle...I thought it would be okay if it wasn't corrosive???
 
You will not go wrong with a mini 30 due to its reliability of a well proven M1 design and toughness. I shoot brass hunting loads and cheap non corrosive steel case mil ammo mostly without issue. On one occasion I experienced FT fires from light strikes that was related to deeply seated primers in one brand of eastern block ammo but, that was it.

Csa vz 58 is not as good as a cz 858.
The cz 858 is a more reliable quality battle proven rifle
I own both.

Also own a bushmaster acr in 7.62x39 its alright,
Probably the best ergonomics you will find on a x39 rifle.
But the bolt wont last forever, and your going to have a feed ramp issue

I built an ar in 7.62x39mm with all upgraded parts, very light weight
Completely custom awesome rifle. Thats the way to go if you dont mind restricted

But the cz 858 wins in my opinion
 
I would go with the CZ or VZ, the rifle was designed to run x39 and not a 223/5.56 that was converted to work. They are relatively cheap and from what I've seen they are reliable and fun. Also easy to clean as has been mentioned which is very important when shooting corrosive ammo.

The problem with the mini-14/30 is that unless you are content with it in the wood stock you've still got to spend a few hundred more dollars on a tacticool stock that does nothing to help the rifle shoot better and the magazines are not as easy to find and are quite a bit more expensive than an AR magazine.

On the other hand the straight wall AR style magazines are hit and miss with feeding the x39 cartridge. Some guys have no problems and others can't get theirs to feed reliably at all.
