7.62x51 Nato Ammo surplus available?

All that I have from Cabelas is Berdan. But thats only 5 of those battle packs. The case I got from CSC was Berdan as well.

I'll check the other 3 cases from CSC when I get home. I haven't found any boxer at either of those retailers yet. Doesntt matter. For that price I'm okay not reloading it anyway.

I'll tumble it and make artwork. ;)

Tradex has a 2 case deal on 1440 rounds all boxer primed for $995 shipped.

Not sure there is anything cheaper then that. Especially if you reload.

I ordered a whack of that tradex stuff.

I got home from the rig and checked my stockpiles. The ammo I got from the Calgary Shooting Center is all berdan 1975.

The Cabelas I picked up is boxer 1980.

Not that I'm complaining. I've been shooting both through my Tikka CTR and it's hitting fine out to five hundred if I do my part.

I can get 500 rounds of Chinese 7.62x51 for $300 + taxes

OR

500 rounds of Barnaul for $375 + taxes

OR

480 rounds of Hirtenberger for $400 + taxes

---

I shoot an M1A with National Match irons/barrel and I only use irons at the moment (but will be scoped soon enough)...out to 200 yards.

What ammo would you guys choose?

Is one significantly better ie. more accurate then the others?

*** Getting .308 brass is nice but I already have close to 400 once fired cases of it...and getting set up for and reloading it still 6+ months away for me so its not a BIG concern/need at the moment. ***

Thanks!

I have been shooting surplus 7.62 since 2007.

I have never seen British, Israeli, or Australian ammo offered for sale.
I haven't seen SA for 5 years or more. Was buying 140 rnd battle packs. Not the greatest ammo IMHO
Norc ammo is still around but appears to be drying up. Get it when you can, it's good stuff.
The Austrian stuff seems to be the norm these days. Haven't tried it myself.
I've lucked into IVI on occasion but in very limited quantities.

That South African stuff was great. I have about 600 rounds of it squirreled away in my gun safe "for a rainy day". Best I've seen lately is that Austrian Hertenberger stuff - it's very good too.
