What are your choices that you would buy, have or would buy if you could and why? Whats the best option out there, example LMT, SR-25,MR308/417, DPMS
etc etc etc...

What optics/scope you would use as well?

"Main Battle Rifles" forum, maybe?

He's asking about AR-10 rifles.

For a target rifle, the DPMS LR-308 is tough to beat. That being said my Armalite target tactical shoots just as well. The price though of the DPMS was less. The mags on the DPMS are the same as the SR-25 and the original Stoner AR-10. I like them better than the modified M14 mags on the Armalite. Triggers on both sucked until replaced. Optics mounting for large scopes was easier on the DPMS. I was limited to a 50mm objective and extra high rings on the Armalite which has the continuous rail. 56mm wasn't an option.

For a target rifle I prefer a DI over a piston system. They're just easier and cheaper to get their full accuracy potential. Some of the others for sale look great as well, but the money for them is getting a bit high for my liking. The Armalite was expensive enough and fairly hard to justify at the time. Although I'm glad I did. It's a unique rifle and shoots very well.

Keep in mind I like the AR-10 rifles as designated marksmen rifles. If you were thinking of a carbine then it's a different ball game. Just remember though that the AR-10 rifles are heavier and not as handy as the AR-15 rifles if you're going this route.

Umm these rifles he's asking about are all modern Black rifles. They are newly manufactured AR10 rifles.

Yeah i debated with myself for about fifteen minutes on where to start this thread! One reason being they are all essentially black rifles!

Your title was talking about battle-rifles but your examples narrow that to the AR-10 family...

Are you considering any semi-auto .308?
By "battle-rifle", do you mean minute-of-man accuracy and ultra-reliable (like an M14 with a 1-4x scope)?
Or would an FNAR with a 5-25x scope fill your need?
Do you mind prohibited, restricted or non?

Yeah, I hear you - being that these are all AR-10 style rifles...

... but it seems Morpheus32 and I both agree that you'll probably get more responses from the 7.62 crowd over here.

The KAC SR-25 is probably the best bet out of those mentioned, BUT, as with most things in life it depends what you want to use it for and how much cost/value you expect for your dollar.

Also, I think the KAC may be hard to come by in Canada?

The KAC will shoot tiny groups but is essentially an aluminum AR15 type rifle. The term "battle rifle" typically implies wood and steel semi-auto rifles from the 1970's and earlier.

Also, the KAC is rather expensive. For a decent semi-auto an M14 variant may offer more value for money, though an AR-style rifle will definitely shoot tighter groups if both guns are properly tuned.

A lot of words to say "it depends" ;)

My buddy bought the SR25, I got the MR308 simply because it was available and cheaper/affordable, I remember seeing the SR25 going between $6000 to $7000 I think, and I missed buying it!

Besides the extra couple 2g's will go a long way on kitting her out with mags, ammo, scope rings etc etc.. plus i need to buy a scope from wolverines which all do next month!

Regarding the AR-10 family, Questar made a great overlook of their many products in a post around the dealer's forum. Really interesting.

I have a DPMS LR-308 and an Armalite Tactical Target AR-10 (Canadian military version of the rifle). Both are great. The DPMS is easier to scope. The Armalite is a military designated marksman rifle while the DPMS is a target rifle. Both show potential of shooting .5 moa at 100 yard with 5 rounds. The DPMS trigger sucked, the Armalite one is so so. Both need to be changed.

Cost: DPMS $1800 new, Armalite new target rifles were going for around $3K.

I like the DPMS mag system better (same as the original AR-10 and the SR-25). The Armalite mags are modified M14 mags.

The DPMS rifle is the best deal for an AR-10 out there. The only cheaper one is the Remington R25 which is also made by DPMS. But you have to learn to like the camo colour scheme.
