7.62x53r brass by Lapua is this the same as regular 7.62x54R brass?

Same stuff, just the Finn designation for the X54r.

Lapua 7.62x53 is a bit shorter than 7.62x54R. I just measured unfired Lapua case(2.084")and unfired Russian case(2.100"). And also, the shoulder in Lapua case is shorter and steeper than the other one.

Acccording to CIP, Lapua is identical, except loaded to .308" and is interchangeable.

Answer, yes, many people use this brass.

Yes, same thing.

The reason case dimensions can vary is that the case headspaces on the rim. Case dimension does not amtter, so long as it is smaller than the chamber.

After firing, both Russian and Lapua case dimesions will change - to match your chamber.
