7.62x54R ammo

Yeah found it, thanks! Why the hell are these ammo so expensive? I phoned a store in Vancouver here and was told that the non-surplus fmj for this cal is $24/20 rounds!

As a military round for which there are not many commercial rifles, I would think that most people want military surplus ammo.
Therefore the market for commercial ammo is probably very small making it expensive.

But if I want to reload this cal, what bullet should I use? .308 180 gr? But seems the mil bullet should be .310.

Ingman is somewhere between 12-17 a box from SIR. I would order some up from them. Some of the milsurp our there is delinked MG ammo and is pretty hot for a mosin.

You can find 303 brit, 30-06, and 7.62x54R all from Districorp

They have all the above ammo in bulk (500rnds) and in boxes of 20. I figured out that buying in bulk would be just as expensive per round if you bought from say Crappy Tire, about a buck/rnd. Thats after shipping and taxes.

We have a small batch of X54 surplus on the next boat.

Price? Oh, when will the boat be docked? I've been told over and over that the boat is coming. Man a boat could've circled the Earth several times:eek: for that long!:D

It hasn't been circling as it hasn't even left yet.

And you're basing this on what exactly?

I have seen ZERO delinked MG ammo for the 54R in Canada.

The Hungarian ammo came on either stripper clips or 20 round waxed paper packs to fit rifle ammo pouches.

The Czech ammo comes packed in 20 round boxes like commercial ammo does, sealed inside RIFLE COMPANY spam cans.

I only see delinked 54R in the US from places that aren't allowed to import to Canada.

And by the way guys, Marstar still has lots of Czech 54R left. Just ordered another crate today ;)

They are virtually out of 7.62x39 though... If it's not all gone today, it will be gone shortly.

Hopefully more on the way though... it's a popular round.

If you really need some of the clips, I can send you some. I had bought the mil surp ammo. And I've gone through almost half now.

Thanks! Yours is 147 gr or 174? Marstar does have a lot, but they're all 147 gr.

The last of the 174gr was the hungarian heavy ball at districorp which is all gone now.

Stick to the 147gr anyhow - it's what you rifle is likely sighted for if it's a post-war refurb.

The 174gr stuff is pretty stiff and not pleasant to shoot for any significant amount of time.

The reason being is that I'll handload 174/180 gr for hunting as well. But 147 gr will be good enough for me to plink and check the sight.
