I'm looking into buying a Nagant 91/30 for hunting deer and larger, and am checking out all the different ammunition available.

Of the brands that I can hunt with (soft point) , so far I've found:
LVE in 200gr
MFS 203 gr
Sellier and Bellot 180gr
Prvi Partizan 150gr

Anyone used this stuff?
How do they compare? What kind of groupings can one expect? I can't find anything on LVE online. Nor MFS for that matter.

Are there other brands/suppliers I should know about?

I've used them all. LVE is actually 203gr as well. Most brands you have listed, have several weights in this caliber. It depends on your Mosin, they don't all shoot the same. If your barrel is sloppy, load .312 bullets for dynamite accuracy. A Mosin can pretty much knock down anything standing in North America.

I'm buying a few more boxes of factory ammo so I can get a good supply of cases for reloading. For hunting that's the way to go.

Currently have in 7.62x 54 R a Baikal IZH-18MH, and a Mosin Nagant Model 1891/1930

I shoot PRVI in my mosin and I've achieved a couple one inch groups at 100 yards. Not the norm, but it certainly isn't far off ;) *great* ammo for my mosin. Yours may be different. Try a few out and see!

Mexican Match

Do you have a friend who reloads? He can pull the military bullet and substitute a soft point hunting bullet of similar weight.

Your military ammo is probably 147 gr, so he could load the 150 gr bullets used for loading 303British.

The advanatage of this is that there is no need for dies and you can toss the used brass.

I've used some S&B 180gr brass-cased hunting rounds out of TradeEx. Haven't fired a shot at an animal (gophers don't count :D ), but on paper at 100 yards out of my old '44 Mosin it groups at 5", through irons. Perfectly acceptable, considering the power it delivers.

Brass is pretty good too, worth hanging onto for future reloading. So far 4 loads and no sign of stress.

Ive used MFS 203 Grs and they were shooting way to low at 50yards. So i made up a load

Hornaday .312 150gr bullet and 40gr of imr 3031 at 2550ft/s and they are super accurate.

I know that all of the ammo above is good quality.

i use privi in my m44 carbine. its shoots well enough using open sights that i feel good shooting deer out to 200 meters with it. ive shot mfs ball and it seems loaded light and shoots well too.
