Does anyone know of a reliable and inexpensive source of ammo for their Mosin's? SirClearance and Marstar are sold out without a restock date, and they are quite expensive (Marstar wants $179 for 780 rds-- you can get the same in the states for $58).

Max...

Don't use American prices to judge what is reasonable in Canada. We'll never see prices like theirs, nor can we import ammunition from them.

Agreed. US importers sell MILLIONS of rounds. Marstar sells thousands of rounds. There's an order of magnitude difference in volume, and thusly, price.

Also, Marstar is nto sold out. they have tons of the ammo, they just can't sell it as NRCan is forcing Canadian retailers to go through the permit process again on this ammo.

Wanna get mad? Blame NRCan.

.23 cents a round before shipping and you are complaining it is too expensive.....have you priced out factory hunting ammunition lately???
Brutal....
Then go to the states and buy it there. You can bring back 5000 rds for your own personal use if you stay for 48 hrs......

AFAIK, Canadian Customs will let you bring back 5000 rounds for personal use but you still need to get an export permit from US Customs. Real bad news if you don't have one and you are caught with ammo at the border.

Where did you find such prices in states???

HERE WE GO AGAIN ON AMMO;
In the US you can import almost anything as long as you have the import permit for it (Form-6)

In Canada the ammo MUST be on the OFFICIAL "official approved list", not the official list on their site....

In the US you can get some super deals on Hungarian, Polish, Roumanian, Russian surplus ammo, NONE of which are approved in Canada....

Have you checked out the differences in duites and taxes, Canada vs the US ??

Why is it when I shipped ammo from our European facility it cost us $3,200per container to Norfolk, New York and other East Coast ports.... The same containers to Montreal just a tad more at $5,200. plus another $500. to bring each container to our warehouse 100km down the road.

Why can I move a full truck accross the US for under $2k when it's double in Canada. ??

Two years ago we sold off more than 40 million rds of Yugo 8mm Mauser ammo into the USA because we could not get approval for Canada....

Why can I get US dealers to stock up and inventory ammo when in Canada there are only a handfull of dealers who will do so ??

Hey we try, but what can we do ??
John

In that case, does anyone know of any retailers in Canada selling 7.62x54 right now with some in stock?

Traveling to the states to buy some would be nice, but not all of us have the luxury of time or the money to do that. I've gone through my last 40 rounds. ;-)

Thanks for the input John. I wasn't aware of how ammo was approved for use in Canada or the assocaited taxes/duties involved.

Grab some Igman ammo from milarm or districorp. It's MUCH more expensive than milsurp, but it's a good source of reloadable brass....

World's longest undefended boarder no more. Rag heads are winning the economy war against North America. Crash a few jets, and the 49th shuts down.

Hi All,

I received this reply to my query about 7.62x54R authorization by Natural Resources Canada:

Good day Mr. Maxwell,

According to our records, the round 7.62x54R manufactured by Sellier and Bellot has never been declared an authorized explosives in Canada. If you wish to obtain authorization of this round, please complete the application form enclosed and submit all technical documentation to ERD for our review and consideration.

That's a load of bunk. The guys who brought it in had import permits issued by NRCan. It is THEIR bureaucratic screw-up, but they are pinning it on the importers.

guys how do we cut off off this departments "head" so they have no power and NO say as to what is imported?? (legal ammo not prohib stuff)

who can we write/call this is utter bull####

approval is stupid were all adults we dont need big brother to keep us safe.....
