Actually, not so much. Light ball (147-150 gr.), often with a silver tip, likely does have a mild steel core, but is not actually AP. Heavy ball (over 175 gr.) almost never has a steel core, just lead.

There are exceptions, though. Hungary made steel-core heavy ball (designation DPSz, silver-over-yellow tip) in addition to the usual lead-core, and I've seen references to Czechoslovakian steel-core in addition to lead core but I don't recall seeing designation or marking. In both cases, I suspect the steel-core was made later in the production period.

That's why I said "almost never". I've seen the Czech variation, very similar to the Hungarian. I'm never quite sure what you guys up north get compared to US imports.
