i went shooting today with friends and brought 300 rounds of tracers..OMFG:mad: these were the worst bunch i have ever shot!!! i had 10 in total lite up. and only when they stuck in the steel plate:mad: none at all lit up when they were in pure flight. (300m or further)

i'm no expert...but you should should see them from at least 50m and out.

...Limit is right on the money, these are garbage!!! I was 1 of 4 friends who went in on a crate of this crap. One buddy fired all 300 of his rounds and had only one or two sporadic ignitions. I fired at 50 meters 200 meters and into a rock face 800-1000 meters with my CZ-858 in low light and had NO VISIBLE IGNITION. I waited to post this because I figured I would see where the thread went and maybe I had a bad batch. I then researched tracer fire and watched footage of various tracer rounds in flight [ no not just the Dillon Gatling Gun;) ] and it is normally a pronounced burn from 50-1000 yards even in broad daylight.
If anyone has any experience with these proclaimed "Tracer" rounds from a well known downtown Vancouver gun shop please post feedback.

BTW...these rounds were fired through 3 different rifles. 2 of them 'rinco SKS's and a CZ-858.

I can't think why they were surplussed out. ;)

I should have saved my cash and bought another regular case of Czech Corrosive from you when you last had them! :D, they are much better looking rounds then those stubby little "tracers" anyways. :p

Oh well, I know where I will continue to make my ammo purchases in the lower mainland.... here's a hint...one has a banner on this site and the other lives in controversial threads. ;)

P.S. Stevo if you could find the time to post a video of your tracer shoot that would be much appreciated. It would let some of us poor folks know what might have been

No kidding.

I'm shooting 49 year old Czech ball right now that shoots well, and 40 year old tracer that lights 95%. Surplus ammo is a crap shoot. Ask me about the cases of bad 8mm I had in the late 80's.

No video of the last tracer shoot. I'll try and get some next time.

It is not the fault of the dealer. Surplus tracers are always hit & miss.

...oh well live and learn. Maybe after some more feedback on the success rate of this stuff it may save someone else some grief,or come to light that I had the only bad batch. I was under the impression I was buying 7.62x39 "Tracer" rounds, not playing some lottery. On the dealers website it provides a description of the product and an area for a note. Wouldn't have killed them to include a disclaimer if spotty performance of surplus tracer is to be expected.
That's the way she goes I guess, maybe a Poll pending...

No way to know what the performance will be unless you shoot it. Hard to sell it then.

Besides, what if they shot a sample that worked like mine? Then you'd still be pissed.

I can't remember the last time I was "pissed", working two jobs and having a toddler has seriously cut into my drinking time :p
I am just disappointed in a purchased product that did not perform. It's not the first time and won't be the last I'm sure. I am also slightly embarassed by my ignorance on the subject of surplus tracer ammo being "spotty" as implied by others in this thread. I have been shooting large quantities of surplus conventional ammunition in different calibers for some twelve-plus years without a hiccup.
I sure wish I could shoot a sample like yours. About the only way to shoot a couple tracers that "worked" out of our batch would be to get severely "pissed" and hallucinate the whole event!! :D The poll should give us a better idea where we're at.

Mad Mikey :p

Interesting thread. I have a full case sitting here... perhaps I should go try it after a snowfall. I has assumed when I bought it that I would get about 95% ignition, hopefully that assumption was correct!
