So,

I already have the 10.5" .223 AR... I have a second lower and I am trying to figure out if it would be a good idea to built a 7" 9mm with it or if it is redundant.

Would I be better of making a 20" .223 ar?

Feedback please :)

what do you want it for? 9mm makes a fun and cheap shooting game gun for three gun shoots, but .223 is almost as cheap anymore. The 9 is way less obnoxios for others to be around when shooting with a short barrel. The 20 incher 223 will make a nice long range or target/tactical sniper sort of setup.

All are fun, build one of each! (I've got the 20" 223 and a 10.5 9mm so far:D )

well id have to say pick one then buy a 3rd lower and start the next project :runaway:
i have 7" 9mm ar and its lots of fun also i have ars in.233 with 16 and 10.5" barrels all are fun:dancingbanana: :dancingbanana: :dancingbanana:
maybe go with a 9mm for a ar in a diff cal:rolleyes:

I've had several 9mm AR's, still have my fav the 10.25", I like 10.25" for 9mm AR's because the muzzle blast is so low and the sight radius decent. I've had a 5.5" 9mm AR too, and I found it somewhat useless, just as loud as a pistol and a very short sight radius. The 10.25" AR is no less "swingable" and has a standard M4/carbine length sight radius, making it useful, and very low muzzle blast. Plus you can then use any standard AR carbine accessories too such as rails and all.

My only experience is with 5.56 AR. In real life situation where an 9mm AR would find usefull application? Are there any PD, SF units using them?
Is the 9mm Colt the ultimate pistol caliber AR?

One new piece of info that might affect your decision...

As of two days ago the RCMP approved our LAR-15 9mm Pistol Magazines for use and sale here in Canada. These are 10 round capacity and are legal for use not just in the LAR-15 9mm Pistols they were made for, but also in any other firearm that they will fit. On the LAR-15 they are designed to lock the bolt open on an empty magazine.

They will fit the LAR-15 Pistols, LAR-15 Rifles and any other 9mm pistol or rifle that accepts Colt style magazines (Colt, Bushmaster, etc.).

We are accepting orders now for delivery in January... Intro Price $49.95

More Info... http://questar.ca/deals/ar_deals.htm

Tested a batch of them recently on a 10.5" LAR-15 and it's a lot more fun having 10 round magazines than 5's.

Nope... these are made and marked for PISTOL which is why they can hold 10; that definitely does make a bit of difference ;)

Sigh, gotta love a system that lets capacity change due to labels. Of course the bad guys would NEVER think to file a rivet off:rolleyes:

so can i reblock my coltmags then :D

Not if you want to keep your guns. :)

NEITHER ... AR 15 in .300 Whisper with 8 " barrel. The .300 Whisper does a better job up to 300 yds than a .223 ever could, and in short barrels, a .300 whisper does a better job than a 9 mm ever could, without the IMMENSE muzzle blast and velocity loss the .223 gets in the shorties.
BTDT ... decided on .300 W for my personal toys... 16 Hbar and shorty.

PS: by the strangest of co-incidences, I just happen to have a spare 16" .300 Whisper SS HBAR barrel laying around

I wish it was that simple... if it had been we would have had 10 round .223 and 9mm magazines a long time ago.

We're still working on getting a 10 round LAR-15 .223/5.56 Pistol Magazine that will meet the RCMP's requirements... that's still a ways off I think... but we're working on it. :)
