My favorite long range rifle is currently this custom 7mm Win Short Magnum. Bullet of choice is the really fine Berger 180 VLD (62 VV N165, WLRM primer, Win Brass):

Nice outfit DCMI, is it built on a short action (WSM) or other M70?
The 7WSM is the best of all the WSM's for long range work, IMO.

My preference is the 300 WSM..............

Questions regarding Rifle.

Scope, Rings, and base are US Optics (Buena Park, CA) SN-3 3.2-17x44/58 with 30mm tube and Unlit Horus H-25 Reticle

Action came from factory fresh .300 WSM rifle. Stock, Trigger, Barrel, etc was purchased back by selling store for replacement parts. (Which put the cost of WSM action at about US$400.) 7mm was picked because of excellent bullets available and because of reduced recoil compared to .300WSM.

Barrel is Lilja 3 groove 1/9 twist 28" long. Trigger is Jewel Single stage set for exactly 1# (Spring Kit). Very controllable and "surprise break" everytime. (Don't put your finger on trigger until on target.)

Stock is McMillan A-5.

Load is 63.5 VV N165, F215M, Win Cases, Berger 180 VLD(BC = .698). L.O.A. = 2.995" from Stoney Point guage.
