7 STW feeding from bdl mag issue

Hey there, so I recently got around to hogging out and drilling my hunting rifle (7 STW, REM 700 in a Boyds Featherweight thumbhole) in prep to install pillars and glass bed. I'm running my COAL at 3.655 as this gives me about .30 jump which the Barnes TTSX seem to like. My issue is rounds feeding from the magwell. Definate brass scraps and issues closing the bolt cleanly during prefit of the action, pillars.

I've bedded around 10 or so rifles now without this prefit issue, and I'm worried as it didn't seem to do this in the factory Rem Syn stock.

My question is this; something to be worried about and I should have a proper gunsmith take a look at the feed rails and feed ramp before I bed the pillars and action? Or am I just causing my own issues having some excess space and that action not being "stress free" ?

I didn't go to my desired 40-45lbs on the action screws but a modest 25 lbs. I say 40-45 lbs as a rough guess after pillars are installed and bedding complete.

You can mock me all you want about the Boyds stock, the things just fit me so well hard to fight it.

Thanks in advance for your advise and knowledge

I don't see why pillars or bedding would have anything to do with "brass scraps and issues closing the bolt cleanly" what ever that means... unless you are bending the action with your bedding.

Put an inch in your torque values... pounds are way too much...

Sorry, yes inch pounds.....not ft lbs

I have since sourced a couple factory HSM rounds from my brother and overall COAL is 3.600 as SAAMI spec. Less scraping still some, but no where near the amount on my loaded ammo at 3.655. I have measured case dimensions for both factory and hand loads and they are within spec.

I have tried a resize of a culled piece of brass, painted it black with sharpie and studied the scrap marks and its definitely feed rails and ramp marks.

As I said before there was a slight scraping before I started the pillar and bedding job. I HAVE NOT BEDDED THE ACTION YET JUST TEST FIT FOR PILLAR LENGTH AND OVERALL FIT. Now it seems to be excessive to the point where I wouldn't want to take the gun out hunting and feed from the magwell.

I guess ultimately my question is does this seem like a possible feed rail and feed ramp polish job or am I missing something simple.

Do you have the magazine box installed correctly? The rounded edges of the box should be positioned up and forward towards the feed ramp. Also, when everything is all tightened up, you should be able to move the magazine box a little bit.

Yes positioned correctly. Slight bit of movement. Not much though.

I've decided to try a polish on the feed rails and ramp. Will let you know how it turns out.

Start with about a 600 grit sandpaper and work my way.
