Okay I've done a search...read most of the Old threads about Remmie bolt faces and admittedly now I have a headache:p

Lots of threads about changing a 308 case head to a mag etc. even some on changing from a 08 case to a 223 etc....Sako extractors and such....

What I want to know is this...

Can I have my 223 Bolt face milled larger to a 308 case face without using the Sako extractor mod etc. ?

It would seem an easy step to open up the face and mill a new slot for the extractor but I'm just guessing.

I have posed this question to my Smith but he's away for abit and I'm too impatient to wait for his reply :D

Thanks for any help:)

Yes. But don't assume that it is an easy step. It requires careful machining. The boltface can be opened out, and undercut for a Remington rivet type extractor. Guntech did a beautiful job on a customer's bolt I sent him. Perhaps he would be prepared to alter your bolt.

Perhaps...easy wasn't the right wording  ;)
I figured it was possible, definately looks like there is enough meat to work with. Just wanted some confirmation from someone in the know.
Thanks for the reply:)

if you are converting a 223 bolt 700 to a 308 case head...you need to alter the feed rails and swap out the mag box, spring & follower.....better to buy an action set up for the 308 type cases...IMHO....

Definately alot more involved then I gave it credit for......
Perhaps it's back to Plan A........again:rolleyes:
Thanks for the replies and advice.
Got some deciding to do :)

Easier to get a donor action in the right configuration, not just the bolt face to be considered, magazine slot has to be widened and magazine changed if your going to use cartridges with a .473 case head
