What would be your choice on the Remington 700 5R gen 2 in 260 cal vs a Tikka T3X ctr stainless in 6.5 creedmoor? The Remington is a 24" brl and the tikka is a 20" brl. Which do you think would be more accurate? I would like to start shooting up to 1000 yrs. I was waiting for a 24" brl in the tikka but who knows how long you would have to wait. Does anyone have that Remington gun here in Canada?

I think Wolverine has the Rem 700 in 260.

I've got it in .308, quite pleased with it. Can't comment on the .260 cal, but I did end up with the 5r Gen 2 over the Tikka T3x ctr... Won me over completely, the bolt is a little smoother on the tikka, but I knew the 5r was for me, doesn't hurt that it comes cerakoted from the factory too.

No experience with Tikkas other than shooting my buddy's T3 Tac in .300WM but have a few Rem 700s that I quite like. I'd definitely say that the 24" barrel is better for long range than a 20" one. Velocity=accuracy at distance, no way around that.

Wanstalls has the 260 rem gen 2 i think as well.

I own a gen 1 5r in 223. Obviously it isn't comparable to the calibers you are considering but it is hands down my most accurate shooter and among my favorites. I would choose the 700 over the tikka out of the 2 you are considering. I am actually picking up one of those remington 700 magpul editions in 260 this month. It only has a 22" barrel i believe.

I was in a similar dilemma myself for a 6.5 rifle for hunting and long range shooting. The 20in barrel on the tikka is too short IMO for long range. If I recall correctly for a given load you will loose 50-100 FPS with a 20in barrel over a 24in barrel, which is not negligible. I end up going savage 10 FCP SR in 6.5 creed. I would choose the 24in barreled rifle. The tikka may be available in 24in soon though

If I could have the best of both worlds it would be the tikka action with the 24 inch barrel . Why give up the velocity. Big bcs don't help if you can't get then out there

Buy the Tikka, it has a superior action and magazine system and that bolt is ohhhh soooo smoooth. Shoot it with the 20" barrel then re-barrel it to 24 or 26 inch and have a real hum dinger!

i have had a 5r 308, and it was a shooter, a real shooter. If the G2 5r is anything like that, i wouldn't hesitate on purchasing the 5r. Plus lots of goodies avail for the Rem, i think more than the Tikka at present, altho thats changing as of late.
The caliber choice and ballistics is too close to choose a winner, any will be good. Personally i would stick with what you can get the best components for (i.e. - lap brass).
You'll be happy with either, but as mentioned, I agree that getting optimal performance from chosen round at long range is better with a long barrel.

I don't disagree that they are better suited project guns, but i will say my 5r G1 action is much smoother and 'tighter' all around than an SPS action i have on another rifle - no comparison.

I really doubt you'll be disappointed. For price / performance / value, that is an awesome out of he box gun. The new T3x stocks are quite nice as well.
