hey yall i have a 700 sps dm in 30-06 its got a prity chesse d*ck barrel on it i was woundering is it worth it to get a thicker barrel for it ?

what would this cost ? the barrel and recever are one arnt they ?

i bought this rifle a few years ago when i got my pal and figered i might be able to upgrade it down the road to make it more of a precision rifle i just think its a good all round hunting rifle but the barrel is to cheap to morph this rifle into somthing of greatness !

any help would be grateful thanks greek !

Its a basic 700 action. Rebarrelling it is a standard operation. Cost will depend on the new barrel, and who does the work. A stainless match grade barrel could run approximately $350 - $550, plus fitting, chambering, crowning, etc. Figure another $200 or so. If you found a new take-off barrel, the cost would be substantially less. If you decide to upgrade, you might want to do something about replacing the stock.

I would get a hold of Mick McPhee and ask him to install one of his incredible cut-rifled 30 cal barrels and accurize your action. Your gun will have the potential to shoot one-hole groups when you're done. Nothing wrong with the SPS as a basis for a proper customized precision rifle!
