What's a good one to go with? Rifle basix, shillen or something else's? A jewel is a bit out of my price range and i don't want the wide trigger shoe of my timney.

Just being cheap right now. Rather spend the extra $$$ on time out hunting.

I'd keep what you have before buying a Rifle Basix, despite having several of them. Same with the Timneys. If you currently are running a Mark X Pro trigger bear in mind that both the Rifle Basix and Shilen need the safety parts from an old style Remington trigger. That cost has to be factored in when comparing prices to the Jewel which has its own safety, so the difference isn't as much as you might think. Jewels really shine (can't believe I wrote that) at extremely low -1# pull weights, the Shilen is very good down to 2 pounds or so.
A friend once described a Shilen as 3/4s of the trigger at half the price. That comes about as close as I can describe it too.

Yes. I don't know what mine was dropped down to (no scale), but it was VERY comparable to my Timney, so I'd say 1.5lbs. It makes the trigger 100x better.
As I said in my last post I just made, with a tuned x-mark, I can't see a reason to upgrade to a Timney. Go Jewel or similar if you change anything.
yep they tune down to about 1.5 quite nicely , And I usually agree with Dogleg so I will again ... the mid range triggers are really no better than a 700. Keep and tune that 700 until you can buy a jewel

Shot a Jewel on a 338 today. Definitely the step of improvement you can do. Skip the Timney! (I own one, and my old gun that I had extensive trigger time behind had a tuned X-mark).
Jewel was unreal with ultra low pull and very crisp. Pricey, but there doesn't appear to be a better trigger in between worth the cost (that I've seen).

I'm using a Jewel at a half pound and wouldn't trust any other trigger at that weight, it honestly is the best.
I think you should use what you have for now until you can justify or afford one rather then getting an ok trigger for now and upgrading later.
note: I have banged the but off the ground to see if I could trip the trigger with the safety off and it did not, and yes it was unloaded, just a snap cap in the chamber.

Just got a Timney, the misses bought it for me for my "not birthday" present. even at the heaviest setting, very crisp set up. Love the feel of the trigger. She spoils me......
1) Center fire rifles don't need snap caps.
2) Unless it differs from their standard Timney (i thought their tactical was just a post rather then a standard trigger) it's 1.5lbs. They hold you to this too because it becomes REAL unsafe real quick any lighter.
Both my Timney trigger, and a professionaly "tuned" Timney trigger weighed in the same this weekend. A far cry from what the Jewel would do. Not even comparable.
I would not hunt with the Jewel. Even 1.5 lbs is border limit hunting unless always unloaded.
strait off the timney website. The tactical is nothing like a regular timney 510. see below.

The OP was looking for an opinion for a Rem700 trigger and not everybody has the budget to afford a $300 trigger. I am quite happy with my Timney as are many other people that buy them.
For the OP, my rifle basix SAV-2 for my Savage just arrived. I after dry firing it all night during the install I would feel quite confident in its safety as well considering its a very light pull, and would't hesitate to recommend Rifle basix trigger to a fellow GunNut.

I tweaked my factory trigger the other day, It feels a lot lighter. I'm still going to put an aftermarket trigger in as its a full blow custom.
With anything, a word of caution. Make absolutely sure it's safe. Hammer the action closed and make sure it doesn't misfire. I really mean it. Drive it in multiple times. You won't wreck anything. You don't want to be at fault for a misfire. Misfires, even without incidents are still very, very serious accidents.
It's good practice to put a dab of nail polish on the threads of the adjusters to make sure they don't change. A small tweak of those adjusters and safe can turn unsafe.
