I have had experiences with VTR chambered in .308 with medalist B&C stock and it shoots great. Most people that "have not" shot the rifle would say the triangular barrel would be a goofy gimmick. at 100 yards, I have shot 20 rounds in a row and shot good 1/2-3/4" @ 100 (fast shooting time)
and right away to 600 yards and still managed to put it in 12" plate. The brass were lapua with hornady 168match, 44.5g Varget.
I would not know if it is a gimmick or if it really works but it sure shoots well even when barrel is under stress/hot. It would be better for you to actually try one but not many people has one.
Bottom line, if you like the looks of it, just buy one and have fun. most rifle can achive 1/2" moa if you put some time into it and even savage axis are capable with little bit of reloading, rebedding and free floating. guess it all depends on how much one person is willing to spend on their toys!
Good luck!
