Looking to buy one of these in .223 strictly for bench rest shooting. Anyone have either one or used them? I really like the Bell & Carlson stock on the Remington. The Tikka is great because of the adjustable cheek piece. The Rem I can get within a few days, the Tikka I will have to wait a few months:mad: Need some advice...

I owned 2 Tikka Tacticals. I loved them at the time. I feel that Tikka makes what is probably the most accurate off-the-shelf rifle you can buy; I was able to consistently shoot cloverleaf groups with my 308 loads.

The lesson with Tikka is to like what you buy because upgrading them is not anywhere as easy as a Remington. The stocks are very different with their recoil lugs in the stock, not the action. The action narrows at the front and thus the barrel shank is narrower than Remington (or MOST) actions.

Their in-line mags work very well, but they are expensive and the throats are so long that optimal seating depth exceeds the magazine by a long margin.

So... if you want to buy an accurate rifle onto which you only want to place a scope and a bipod, this represents a really good package. If you want to upgrade stocks or triggers you are generally going to search long and hard and pay dearly. There are more companies coming out with T3 accessories though.

I hunt with a T3 in 338-08 and I LOVE it.

I love the Tik-Tac, but with conditions....

I've got a XCR tactical in 300WM and I love it. I didn't have to do much load development with mine before it would put 4 into the space of a dime. I like the adjustable trigger.

XCR LRT in .308
Amazing stock rifle. Groups of .78 inches at 500 yards with factory loads :p

I have a Tikka Tactical in .308. The first day I shot it I got three bullets into a single hole at 50 yards and .6 MOA at 100.

I have an XCR Tactical in 308. I've been getting decent results with it at various distances. Less than 0.5moa out to 300 yards then for some reason it turns out to be a moa-.75 moa shooter any further than that. A friend has a Tikka varmint rifle in 223 and it shoots just as accurate as my Remington. I think that all these factory rifles shoot just as accurate as one another so flip a coin and pick one.

Timoram, nice shooting!
I have one question though.
Can you do it consistantly? If you can, you have one of the most accurate rifles i ever heard of! FACTORY AMMO!? WOWWWW!
Every now and then we can shoot a scary good group, but its the average we need to follow as the true measuring stick.

The very first day I was shooting at 1000yds plus, I shot a .966" three shot group at 1100yds! The forth and fifth expanded it to 2.110"! My friends and I were stunned! I dont shoot THAT good!
Reality set in the following groups! My groups normally are around 6-8" in perfect conditions. Some groups smaller, some bigger.
You may laugh at this!
I shot these 1100yd. groups with an .243 dia. 88gr. Berger match/flat base, bullet in a 6mm Ackley! A long way for such a small pill!
This rifle has shot groups ranging from 0.031,0.079,0.157, and .264" @100yds. all in the same day! The best day shooting of my life!
But I havent shot like that since.
The funny thing was that I had this style of bullet sitting on my shelf for 10years! And never tried it till that day! All that time lost! man!
This rifle will truly average about 0.350 to 0.50"@ 100yds. Maybe a little more. In perfect conditions.
The only thing about this rifle is that I have measured and trended about 0.015" of throat erosion in just 150-200 rounds! I built this barrel myself with some help of a good friend of mine. His name is Bevin K.
With limited barrel life expectancy, I want to save it for my son when he grows up and wants to shoot gophers.
Building this rifle barrel was an awsome experience!
Not rocket science, but precise equipment and the right teacher!
Timoram, Let us know if you have had more groups that tight with Factory Ammo.
Have fun guys,and shoot lots!

I've owned a Tikka Varmint (close enough to a TicTac ) and own a 700 XCR - I think out of the box the edge goes to the Tikka - not surprising considering it is the baby bro of the Sako TRG which is the best factory rifle produced ( with apologies to AI fans ! ). If you want to mod down the road however then 700 XCR is the better bet - mine sits in an AICS 1.5 and is soon to wear a new barrel which, were it a Tikka, couldn't happen (the AICS I mean ).

i dont own either, however i have shot both as well as i have a 700 build, if your looking for an out of the box rifle and are planning on keeping it the way it is, i would go with the tikka, however if you think you might turn it into a build i would go with the 700 more after market parts and a lot of really good gunsmiths. I would also suggest looking at savages i have friends with 10fp builds and they are great shooters even before all the aftermarket parts. I have never seen a factory rifle shoot under an inch consistantly at 500 yards... maybe an accuracy international, mcmillan, or hs precision could...

Well, i have done my home work as well on this one and had the same desision to make, Tic-tac or Rem XCR LRT in .223. I was able to play with both at the range and both performed very well with very impressive groupings. The Tic-tac has 1.8 twist vs. the rem at 1.9 The tic tac would provived more stable flight for the heavier grain bullets on the long range but the rem is just as accurate i found unless your very anal about 1/16 of an inch at 300yrds i wouldn't worry about the twist factor. Both i found to be unbeleiveably accurate on the 300 yrd line with clover groups. Both are more than capable of smoking a gopher at 500yrds and delivering a sweet hornady punch. It boils down to personal preferance and for that the Rem 700 XCR LRT in .223 won for me as the options and mods available are more in rems favor. My Rem 700 XCR LRT will be in my hands next week. Can't wait, I already have a elite 6500 4.5-30X50, leopold 1 peice base and rings sitting here waiting for the arrival of my new toy. I love the stock on the rem, very comfortable and fits me well.

but you can get an AICS look alike metal trigger and magasine ....

I have a Remi XCR in .223 and I love it, I haven't had any problems with it and it shoots awesome groups.

The main reason I got it was because I found it on a wicked sale (40% off) and the availability of accessories and parts for any Remington 700.
