700P 338 Lapua

Had the chance to test fire my 338 Lapua yesterday and today! Muzzle brake works very well................... not quite the recoil of a 308 win. but closer to a warmed up 30/06. Muzzle blast with the brake on is rather disturbing to the shooter and surrounding shooters. Haven't discovered the magic load with 250 gr. Scenars but getting real close to it. So for the best group has been just over 1/2 MOA @ 100 mtrs. Still needs to be bedded and a few more loads using other powder brands.

You should try a brake actually made for a caliber that large, it would probably feel like a pellet gun:D.

The rem 700 lapua brake I looked at had a opening probably 50 thou larger than the bullet diameter, not to mention the 360 degree ports. In a properly installed brake the opening should be no larger than 20 thou over caliber and ports pointed at the ground can get quite messy when shooting prone. Wait till it's wet out, instant natural camo.;)

Sounds like it's shooting pretty good though, just to bad it does not have another 4 inches of barrel to burn all the powder. Do you have plans to put a custom barrel on it in the future?

Once the original tube starts to show its ugly side a new 30" tube thats in the works already, will be installed.
Anyone know if a 5 or 10 round magazine is available?

The brake on my Timberwolf gives a recoiul feel of shootiing an FN FAL, Reaper and RobAK both think less.

How much does your Timberwolf weigh? The 338 lapua I made weighs in at 10 lbs, including the holland brake. It hits a tad bit ;) harder than any C1 I've ever fired. It also has only a 1/4" hardashell recoil pad. The stock hasn't showed up yet so I used a temp.

Cheers

About 17 1/2lbs, and it is nestled in a McMillan A5 stock with the adjustable recoil pad.
