700P or PSS takeoff barrels?

Do any of the long range builders, build there 700's of the Police platform or just the SPS'? TacOps in the states uses P's and sells the barrels for 60$ a peice, any of you guys? Kinda a WTB ad but more less just curious.

Do you what to buy a $60 take-off P barrel for a build? The barrel that a custom builder has foresaken for a custom barrel. The P and SPS come equipped from Remington with factory barrels, maybe ones longer than the other. They are the finest Remington can mass produce for $50 or so per rifle. Are you asking is a Police remington action preferrd over a SPS remington factory action. They are both factory remington actions. Could depend if you are going with factory stock, or custom.

Basically I was wondering if the builders are using P's or SPS' the majority of the time. I've heard of them building from SPS and selling the crap (barrel, stock) but I figure maybe if they started with a Police they could get more for/sell the take-off parts easier....

Buy the cheapest REM 700 action you can find, that fits your needs. True it, add barrel and stock as preferred. Buying a complete rifle and trying to sell off the parts will cost you big time. The more you spend the more you loose.

I guess ATRS will have to answer that himself, but I think my advice in the previous post would help increase his profit and still produce a high quality product.

Most of the customs we build here are based on SPS actions. To spend several hundred dollars more to buy a Police rifle just to take it apart and then try to recoup the difference selling off the unused bits makes no sense and usually costs more money. The exception is with left handed rifles as Remington produces very few, so you pretty much have to take what they have.
There is no real difference in the actions other than finish.
We do get the occasional client who wants the HS stock that the 700Ps come with so then it would be cost effective to use a 700P as the base platform. The action alone for an SPS is about $600.00 nowadays and the HS stock another $550.00 so to buy an $1100.00 rifle to rebarrel makes sense then, but most of our customs go into McMillan or AI stocks.
