Just inherited one looks to be in brand new shape not sure if I want to sell it or keep it and turn it into a pump action
Thoughts?

I suppose it depends on the inherited respect you had for the deceased?

They are not a horrible unit and finding one in that condition could be a blessing.
Take it out and shoot it.
See if it attracts you.

If a pump appeals just sell it and buy a Remington 760 in 308. I've owned 3 742 Remingtons, 2 carbines 308 and 30/06, 1 rifle in 30/06. All three ran like tops, never a jam.

Just keep those 742’s clean and you’ll never have a jam problem. They’re great rifles. Got a bad rap from bubba shooting hundreds and hundreds of rounds year-after-year without even a thought on any cleaning. They were reasonably priced new back in the day so every Joe bought one, shot them, and tossed them in the closet till next year, then wondered why the rails were all chattered up.

There's probably a reason the the 6mm and 280 Remingtons were loaded to a lower pressure when they were introduced.
