I need some help with cleaning and maintaining my 742 in 243 calibre i just bought.
This is my first rifle and will only be used for coyotes.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Please dont reply if your going to bash my gun.

If you aren't disassembling the gun fully, I suggest a good aerosol blaster/cleaner, and clean the inside of the reciever, after pulling the trigger group, also the trigger group. Once all the crap is out of the action, pull off the forend, clean the action bars etc with a cleaner as well.
The chamber should be kept clean, as well as the locking lugs area, try using a chamber brush on a fleible handle. Clean the barrel as normal, but I would suggest pulling out the gas orifice ball and screw, so you can get in there clean as well.
Once everything is clean, a good light oil, like Remoil aerosol, though the manual will suggest only a few key points to apply oil to, I always liked to drown the whole action etc in oil, then let it drip dry for a good while. If you are storing the gun I suggest protecting the chamber as well. Before shooting, wipe the chamber clean.

i take it you don't have the manual, or if you do, just follow the few paragraphs in that
YOU NEED one of those crazy 'Z" chamber brushes to do the job properly- other than that , it's just a standard rifle that you have to clean from the muzzle
cleaning and care-
unscrew forend screw and remove forend
clean all action parts with an EVAPORATING solvent
the gas tube is self cleaning and selodm needs attention
however if cleaning is required , this is easily done 1) put an empty mag in and draw the bolt to the rear, locking it open
unscrew and remove oriface screw screw from bottom of barrel lug and remove oriface ball- this may be accomplished by tapping on the side of the barrel lug with a small plastic hammer, should ball prove difficult due to corrosion , soak in pentrating oil
dry and reassemble DO NOT LUBRICATE
re-attach forend and screw firmly in place
now on to the chamber
CARTRIDGE CHAMBER IN BREECH AND BORE MUST BE CLEAN(their caps, not mine)
use chamber brush supplied with each rifle
chamber cleaning can be done through the ejector port of receiver
( basically, lock the action to the rear, ( use a mag) dip the brush in solvent, and work it around the chamber-
and wipe clean with patches- there's a loop on the other end of the brush for this- stick your patches in there and reverse the brush-
remove the trigger mechanism and clean as a unit
( it doesn't tell you how, but you drift out those 2 pins above the trigger)
brush with solvent, allow to dry, and re-oil sparingly
in re-assembling trigger plate mechanism, ALWAYS BE SURE that then end of the disconnector is BELOW END OF CONNECTOR LEFT- otherwise rifle will not function correctly( i think you have to take the trigger mech to pieces to have this apply-i can;t see it happening unless you drive out the pins in the mechanismm etc

i can't see one in the search engine- but i can lay my hands on one pdq if need be- scan it for you, provide me with your e-mail ( a real e-mail- i'm getting bounces from hotmail and g-mail)- i've got it scanned in now- just didn't bother with the front and back pages as the cover and warranty parts information aren't relevant
