I am hoping to be able to hit the paper at 800-1000 yds with the Hornady 75gr A-Max. and would appreciate any recommendations on primer / powder. The 10FP has a 1 in 9 twist and 24 in barrel. I have been doing OK with a 69 gr Sierra HPBT Varget powder and the CCI BR4's but the load will not stay supersonic beyond 6-700yds.......

Thanks

.223 I would think. I asked the same questions not that long ago. Start around 24.5 grains of Varget and work in 0.1 grain intervals up and down to find the right combo. I think the max charge is 25.0 grains. OAL 2.390.

Got to 1000 okay with 75gr Hornady HPBT match, the a max 75 gr would not group good, you might come up short with a 24" barrel. Rem 700 police 26"
2940 fps and lots of Varget,
You might want to try Vih 540 it might get you there.
good luck

I have no problems getting to 1000 yards with 80 gr SMK or Noslers with 26gr of Varget, however the rifle does have a 28 in barrel.

with my 26" barrel Savage, 24.5 Gr of VV N140 and the 75 Gr A Max is no problem to 1000 yds, unless the wind is 50 MPH (like last year at Connaught). That gives me 2950FPS - the 24" barrel will give some velocity away, but you should still have enough - or try VV N540, I have not but it is supposed to be higher energy, should be ok.

It's hard to find in Canada. I think Higginsons carries it now.
WSS catalogs it, but I'd bet you a buck that it's never seen the inside of their warehouse.
And I'd bet that the 'boutique' accuracy suppliers could source you some - the same guys who bring in the Lapua bullets and brass and stuff

I won't pretend to have experience loading .223 yet, but have liked some of Ramshots other powders in my .308, .30-06, .338 WM and .270 WSM loads. I'll include a link to their site, they have an online load guide and burn rate chart that includes their powders stacked up against all other brands. It seems to me to be a bit of a difficult find as with the Vihta Vuori powders. I've found it at WSS Calgary as well as a small town shop called Battle River Sports in Stettler, AB. Count on it being intermittent at WSS; and apparently I was one of the first buyers of their experimental stock in Stettler, so they may or may not be a reliable source for it.
