my new rifle that i picked up today seems to have a bit of wonky machining
on the receiver, one side seems normal thickness and the other side is extremly thin.
I am not to happy about this as I have already waited 6months for it to arrive so now if i return it i will wait who knows how long for a replacement?, yet if i keep it i will always know that i have a defective rifle , a factory second if you will.

am i being too picky ? I dont expect perfection but i do expect quality and consistancy in workmanship from Remington. I dont recall my 7400 haveing the same issue and it does look as the macineing is imperfect

Persoanlly it would bother me the same way, but i think i'd just put it back together and try to enjoy it as is. You could ask about getting a new one but I doubt that Remington will replace it for you because there is nothing mechanically wrong with it, and you have to take it apart to see the cosmetic imperfection.

well i sent Remington an email explaining the issue and provided the two pictures i posted here. and this was there response

Dear Kyle:

Thanks for visiting Remington Country! We appreciate your interest and support of Remington products.

We regret that you are experiencing problems with your firearm. Based on the information you have provided, we suggest that you send your firearm to our Ilion, NY facility.

You can print the factory repair form and instructions at the following section of our site.

from reading that i would say that they looked at the pictures and felt there was an issue, I fully expected to have Remington say that the machining is within tolerances and that was that but instead they said to send it back to them.

This is going to be a big headach for me, the cost and time of sending back the firearm not the mention the fact that i live in Canada is going to be a real issue.

send it back if you aint happy, have them send you a better receiver or refund the money. its your gun, dont roll over until your 100% with it.

worse case scenerio, they say no and you stuck with a rifle that works fine, and looks good (until disassembled)

Out of curiousity, are you even able to send a gun directly to Remington? I had a similar issue with a new Marlin (now Remington-owned), and when I called them, they told me to call Reliable in Vancouver (their warranty agents in BC). I haven't done so yet, but I'm guessing that the process will be to send the gun to Reliable and they will then deal with the paper work to get it sent back to Marlin in the U.S.

Anyways, might be something you'll want to double-check with Remington about because I do imagine that they have a warranty center in Canada.

In addition to a poorly fitting and slightly damaged stock, one of the most obvious problems with my rifle was the misaligned barrel stamp; the consensus from a Marlin-specific board was to send it back, so I'd suggest the same with your rifle since the thin receiver wall may be more than just cosmetic.

First of all, wow.
I have been hearing that Remington is letting their quality control slide, but that is GLARINGLY obvious! It almost looks like the receiver was misaligned while being machined! The question of course, is how many other guns were pumped out like that. And how many buyers will never know because they don't take the stock off?
As for the email back from Remington, it looks to me like a standard, mass-produced reply, I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't even looked at by a human being. I also don't think you can ship a gun straight to the states like that, so I'm not sure they even payed attention to the problem.
On the plus side, the "problem" appears to only be cosmetic. It only affects the fit of the stock to the receiver, and none of the moving parts. If it were me, the deciding factor on wether to send it in or keep it would be wether the stock sits right. Does it wiggle, or shift around? When it is tightened on, does it sit crooked? If the answer to any of these is yes, then switch 'er up.
Another factor is recoil. If this is a light recoiling gun, like a .223, then it should be fine. But with something heavier (30-06, .308, etc) will cause more stress on the metal over time. Something to think about.
That's my 2 cents!

It doesnt appear to be the recessed section that is misaligned it actually appears that the flat outside side(the right side) of the receiver is machined crooked and has had more meat taken off one side then it should have . I would agree and guess someone was not watching and the receiver was crooked as it was machined.

I am not sure if its a form letter response or not one would think that if it was something that was a simple fix they would say take it into the nearest repair facility and not ship it back to them .

all i know is that I am not impressed

well i took the rifle back the the following week and from there the rifle went to Quebec where the Canadian importer for Remington is and then I gather it is being sent back to Remington .

As far as i am concerned the rifle should have been replaced instantly and my dealer agree that the only option is to replace it , the rifle is machined incorrectly so it cant be repaired only replaced . It is allready registered to me which is a PITA but that really shouldnt be a problem . I cant believe that there isnt another 7600 carbine in canada that isnt botched so i cant see why they cant send me another from Quebec .

I gotta say that i am a little ticked at not haveing the rifle Especially since i ordered it at the begginning of December and now i am pissing my bear season away .

I will call Remington and state my case with the serial # and explain to them that their importer for Canada has it right now and see if I can get this dealt with .

oh well i will see how it goes tommorrow.

I in all honesty thought that a properly made 7600 carbine would be a pretty simple rifle to get here.
