My new acquisition: a 1936 Winchester Mod.71 (.348) with bolt peep sight.
And a nice bull Moose (52inches) at 150 yrds. (250gr Woodleigh/48gr H4895)
Our 16 month old daughter woke up just in time from a 3 hour nap to watch us bring the last quarter into the boat.
So now we're all set for the winter.
We just pulled the boat out a few days ago and that marks the end of a busy season.
Time to settle in with the rhythm of winter.
It's always a nice feeling to know that you have all you need for the next 6 months or so:
Good food, firewood...diapers?
It's been -20c for a while now and freeze-up might not be long to come.
Until then we're home bound, more or less.
Cheers,
GB
PS: Bullet weight: 242 grain.

Congratulation of getting your meat for the long Winter coming! I don't envy you the cold weather. We had shorts & t-shirt weather yesterday in Eastern Ontario. Our rifle deer season opens in a few days & it is just too warm.

That's awesome! I'm on my way home from my moose hunt and it's track soup for another year. I didn't use my 71 this year. Maybe next year.

Love seeing these old classics put to work... beautiful country too.

So much more enjoyable to use a rifle like that than a .300 Whompin' Stompin' Super Magnum.

Nice pictures and thanks for sharing. I like your choice of rifle. My favorite lever gun and calibre combo. This year the plan is Mule Deer trip on draw in AB but next year I hope to get mine out for Moose.

Most of the bullets I load for mine are Hornady 200gr FP but I have picked up a quantity of Barnes originals in both 220gr and 250gr. I also lucked into a couple of boxes ofWinchester 200gr Silver Tips from a guy on site.
