Have a chance to shoot 1km this weekend and only have my faithful 223 to do it. If I am running a 77gr lapua at 2700 FPS how many moa to 1km using .387 bc. My program maxes out at 800m, any help appreciated

Making some assumptions for twist rate (7.7” ROT) and environmentals Atrag says 52.60 MOA for 1000m, or 15.31 mils

Only 2700 FPS?
What's your OAL?

I'm running 2900 FPS with an AOL of 2.5"

Do you have a short throat?

The Lapua app is the best for Lapua - they rent Finnish Defence facility with Doppler for $10,000 USD per day and the software is first class. This is a free app and drag data is proven to be accurate at all distances and conditions.

At 1000, I am at 30 MOA with a 80 SMK 223wylde, 1 moa less than my 308 175tmk
I think you should try for the higher node, 50 moa seems awfully high

Definitely going to try higher, I used book max as my test and used the best group for that. Will be giving the 80gr eld a try. Funny thing I noticed is you can run faster with the 80 than the 77

Oal is massive, can’t remember off the top of my head but it was way outside the mag, could only single load a mag, what a pain in the ass for pr shooting. Had 4 seconds to put a round in the mag, chamber it drop the mag and insert round 2. Repeat 5 times for a string. Was hoping the gun would single feed, but it would not

Depends what action you have?

If its a Rem 700 just change to a stock that feeds AI mags and you're in business.

I just put together a sweet 223 to feed 2.6 inch long rounds. Defiance action feeding from AI 223 mags. Has a 1:7 Bartlien and jams 75 Grain Hornady ELDs at 2.55" So far we've tested it with an MPA stock we have around, but I'm still waiting for the Cadex stock to arrive... Cadex is off for 2 week plant shut down, so might be a while yet.

But you can run 2.5" long rounds through a Ruger precision rifle in 223... I have one and do... works fine. Has 1:7 twist and jams at around 2.5 OAL with Hornady 75 gr ELDs.. I get 2900 FPS in that easy.

I can run about 25.5 to 26.0 grains of varget with the 75s to hit 2900 .. max load depends if the cases are fire formed or FL resized.

Tikka, I don’t think I will have a problem pushing it harder, just need to hit the next node. Might try some different powder than varget as well. It has always been my go to for almost any round
