777 cleaning between shots?

My son in law recently purchased a stainless CVA Wolf 2 inline. We went to the range and sighted it in using 777 powder. He plans to switch to 777 pellets once we get it roughly sited in.
I was surprised how quickly the barrel fouled to the point that we couldn't seat a projectile on the charge (4 or 5 shots). What is your cleaning regimin? How about out in the field? A couple of shots should be okay out on the hunt? Can't see firing more than 2 shots out in the field. You either hit the deer, or you have more time on your hands. Personally I use a Savage smokeless, and have never needed a second shot, nor does it require much cleaning.

What you describe was my experience with a Thompson Center Omega ML .50 cal - I only used 777 pellets in it - but likely could only force a saboted bullet down the bore for perhaps 3 or 4 shots - after that, I do not think an hammer would make them go - became a habit with a buddy - we kept a cotton round patch in our mouth - swabbed the bore with that wet patch between shots.

I discovered that Lawry's, at the time, stocked "Harvestor" brand sabots - they are apparently a bit thinner than other brands - for that T/C, I was looking for any advantage that I could get. Some years ago, I read that the actual bore size for .50 cal ML is not standardized - going to be some differences from one brand to another - T/C, at the time, was reputed to be on the "tighter" side, compared to others. And you are correct - way different to reload in the field versus on a range - no table to lay out stuff, for starters - have to be a bit organized were everything is - how are you going to hold it / use it, without dropping other stuff. But typically got a shot at a deer - then multiple minutes (it seemed) to reload before going to look. Gotta experience a "dead" deer jumping up and taking off - once - then you do not go looking with an unloaded rifle ...
